How ot use Megs #7

I will post some pics. It probably wont be till next weekend sometime. As I dont have a digital camera and I will have to get the film processed.

I would only use M-20-16..as a one step product..On a vehicle that has excellent gloss and in excellent condition..It's been my experience the majority of my customer's...like this product as an easy to use product to protect their paint...Think of M-20-16 almost like Medallion Premium Paint Protection M-98-16...As a matter of fact I would rather use M-98-16 on top of # 7..before I would use #20 on top of #7...I have the recent reformulated version of #20 and I still believe..# 20 has a stronger cleaner than M-98-16...Remember this is my opinion..and not necessarily the opinion of Meguiar's Inc...

True #20 does have some cleaners but, not enough to worry about it removing #7. I have used #20 over #7 and it is an awesome look. Actually here is a pic for anyone interested :) I was just playing around with #81 hand polish and topped with #20.

How long did the shine stay when using the #20 as compared to just #26?

That looks awesome. :bigups If only my black turns out to look half as good.

Hard to say, the #20 has only been on there by itself since yesterday. I usually top #20 with #26.

I would expect though that #20 should be more durable than #26.

True enough. Point taken. I forgot that you worked for Meguiar's, too. The reason I brought it up was that Mike sent me a sample of the newer formulation, and the smell was different, the texture was different (much thicker), and I found that it worked terrible as a one step. The Mother's cleaner wax I have, and also AIO, worked 10x better than #20.

Thanks for your insight.

In my experience, #26 has been quite durable. #20 is only slightly better. Parking outside 24/7, I have found #20 to last around 2 months, while #26 seems to last about 5 or 6 weeks. This is based on ad-hoc observations though....I haven't really studied longevity on #26 closely, since I mostly used #20 before I switched to Klasse.

My favorite combination....M-83-32 Dual Action Cleaner Polish W-8006 pad, with a number 5 setting on my PC..followed up with M-81-32 Hand Polish with w-9006 finishing pad, and then followed by two coat's of S-100, or one coat of M-16-11 Professional Paste Wax, made by meguiar's..Of course removing all these product's with Meguiar's Micro-Fiber Wipe's..and claying the paint surface with Clay Magic Clay bar..Favorite was is M-62-01 Car Wash Shampoo and Conditioner..

If you haven't already purchased the #7, try the mother's sealer glaze (it's just a glaze). I've not used #7, but with the mother's I don't have the oily, multiple wiping that people describe with #7.

I think no matter what you use to top a glaze, some of it's going to come off. If the wax has a cleaner it (abrasive or chemical) it will definitely remove the glaze. With a liquid wax, the extra solvents in there to make it liquid will also remove some of the glaze. I'd stick with a paste carnuba. PS21 should work fine.

Michael

I think you said it perfectly! :up Both glazes work very well, but Mothers S&G wipes off with very little effort.....much easier than #7 & #81.

#81 is easier to work with than #7,

Just ordered some #81 today. Looking forward to giving it a try on my show car under Pinnacle Souveran or S100. #7 is a great product can be difficult to use at times.

True, true. I am always forgetting about Mother's.

Is this the same mothers thay you can buy at like wal-mart and advance auto that you guys are refering to?

Yup. That's the beauty of Mother's stuff. You can get it anywhere.

See 10 months ago when I first became bitten by this detail bug I was thinking that anything that you can buy at like wal-mart k-mart, target places like that were junk. That you had to buy the stuff that was hard to find and detailers places to get the best stuff. Well what I am seeing now is there is some decent stuff to be had out in the public as well. I know back in March when this all started I swore megs stuff must not be any good since wal-mart carried it. So I quit using it. But guess what I am back at there stuff again.

Not yet. I have found that USPS takes about 10+ working days to get anything up here. Thanks for getting it out.

The only problem with Mother's is that they don't have the full system like Mother's or 3M. You only have basically a wax system, but no real progressive line of polishes and compounds.

I agree..this is where Meguiar's has a slight edge..I remember when I was in training how color sanding had such a profound effect on gloss and how flat and beautiful a paint finish can look..Mother's main audience is the public..Where Meguiar's..target's everyone as best they can..

Another good thing about Mother's they tend to keep their product line nice and simple..Which can be a very good thing..Whereas Meguiar's..can be very confusing and at time outright difficult..to understand all of their product line's..and I was trained on this..now imagine someone from the street..

Is 2 months all you can get out of #20? That's not too great for a sealant!

I would've expected at least 4 months or so.
