How Much to Jack and Pull Wheels??

Curious what you pro's would charge for this process??

These are regulary monthly costumers of mine (and very influential in the Dallas Corvette community) so I want to give them a good deal.

They have two show car corvettes, both invested well over $40K-$50K each.

I will jack the cars, pull the rims, clean with mothers ball and aluminum polish, then wipe down and hit with a good sealent like Zaino or RejeX. The rims are HRE's and over $8K alone each car......

So what would you charge to jack and pull rims and do a deep cleansing on them?

I was thinking $50 for 4 hoping it will take less then an hour each car??

I know how to jack Vette since I used to have one.:woot:

Thanks, Josh:usa :buffing:

:wow: AHH HRE Wheels. I think I would charge like $15 or $20/wheel. To pull them and polish the entire wheel. Or figure out some kind of package deal that makes it worth while for them to do all 8 wheels for $150. Thats about 8 hours of work right there!

HRE's are some of my favorite wheels. You can't beat them for quality. I have a set of 540's on my 300zx and they look spectacular. My only complaint is that the mesh design is a major PITA to keep polished and clean.

JoshVette- I had HREs on my Mallett C5. I always found jacking it to be a PIA (didn't have my fancy jacks then), so unless you have a jack that you *know* will make it easy I'd be prepared for a bit of a job (if your jack won't fit under the car I can advise on how to get things to work, don't hesitate to ask if I can be of assistance). I'd dunno if you'll be able to do it in an hour/car, I couldn't have done mine that fast and I don't think I could do it that fast now even with the proper floorjacks.

I think I'd say that, this being the first time, you dunno just *how* long it'll take so you're gonna charge by time/materials. Then you'll work something out for the next time you do it. I don't think it'd be a problem, thinking as a customer, it'd sound reasonable to me.

FWIW, I found the wheelwells/suspension cleaned up nice and easy, so that part of the job oughta be OK.

Oh, almost forgot- be very careful fitting the socket onto the lugnuts and use one that fits nice and snug (don't want to chip the corners of the lugnuts). Yeah, I know, that sounds real "duh-obvious" but I always used a plastic-coated socket so I wouldn't risk touching the wheels with metal-on-metal. You could also wrap a regular socket with masking tape. Better safe than sorry with wheels that cost so much. Argh...I can't remember the torque specs for the 'vettes...but remember to keep your torque wrench handy ;)

Accum. I can drive them up on 2x4's and then fit the jacks under to lift it.

I also have some rhyno ramps that when combined with the 2x4's come in handy on a low pro. car. Worked great on my lowered 02 Coupe.:woohoo:

I'll have to see how long it takes me to do each tire and the whole car and formulate some kind of price.

$50 for a set is way too low. It may only take a hr each but factor in total time jacking, removal, clean up, install...etc. You had a vette so you know the routine. Since you are cutting a break on pricing for them, I would suggest $25-35 per rim. I would also go as far as addressing the chrome caliper, plus the rotor hats if possible. Not to mention a full clean on the wells. We do some SUV's with very large rims 24" and up..and we get about $50 per rim or more depending on how much work is needed.

That was kind of my plan to hit the wheel wells and brakes quick and all around and then focus on the rims and rims wells themselves.

You are right, maybe $25 per rims is not too bad I think. (there car's are extremely clean so I'm not too worried about having to do a lot of clean up work, more just polish and perfecting.:woot:

OK, cool :xyxthumbs Sounds like you've got it covered. Heh heh, the 2x4 approach isn't my idea of fun, but it works. Wish I'd had the Rhino ramps!

You can get them at Wally World or AutoZone or Pepboys, or pretty much anywhere for about $20 bucks. :2thumbs:

Heh heh, these days I drive such sensible cars (and have such nice low floorjacks) that I don't need 'em. But I really should have bought them back when I had the 'vette [Accumulator kicks self again for all the hassling around he did ;) ]

You know, I bet I'd *still* find 'em useful for the times when I don't want to bother putting the cars up on stands...hmmm  Not like I ever quibble about ~$20 :o

I'd say $25-35 per wheel and another $15-20 (more if trashed) to detail the fenderwell and suspension you can reach.

Doing all 4 wheels is alot of work. I'd imagine atleast it's a 2-3 hr job to jack it up, clean both sides of the wheels, wax/polish them and re-install. It would take atleast a 1/2 hour just to jack the car up and remove all 4 wheels. Plus, if you take the wheels off, it's a must to detail the wheel sell skirts and suspension. Don't forget that these cars have independent suspension all the way around and there's alot of components that get dirty. You could easily tie up 4-6 hours just to do the complete deal. No way I'd do it cheap!

Are you powerballing just the inside? I would be scared to do the face of an HRE with the powerball..

No, I won't use the powerball on the face of the HRE's, they're chromed and won't be needing it, just in the rim wells.

I don't think it will take that long, not a half hour to jack, just about 5-10 minutes really, then place the stands, I've jacked my vette a few times and it's not that bad.

If it turns into an all day event (which I don't see happening) then I will charge what it's worth.

But these rims, brakes, wells and all other parts of these cars are extremely clean (show cars remember) and I don't get the impression they want me to use a microscope and toothbrush, just get them cleaned.

We'll see what happens. Thanks for your imput.
