How much experience did you have before starting?

MaksimumAuto: Good job ! I know what it's like being your age and not being taken seriously (I'm not that much older than you actually). Keep it up, you will have a self-sufficient business, making good, consistent money before any of your friends even step foot in a university.

Thanks for all of the posts everyone! It's cool to see everyone is really active in the detailing world. I also like how everyone is open to helping others, that's good to see nowadays.

I've been doing a lot of reading the past week or so, and am excited to get into this trade. I've already came up with some business names, and have a written business plan. I'll be sure to keep you guys posted on any success/failures

Being so young and detailing does present its challenges, the one I do encounter a bit is having someone who is 18 trust you to treat their vehicle properly. I find that a short explanation of what you are going to do to the vehicle and the process involved goes a long way in comforting the uneasy customer.

Hey I noticed you offer gift certificates on your site, how can I do that? also how do you do the whole SEO thing to get your site on google? I've been trying to get exposure on google...

Could you explain this SEO thing a little more? what kind of research is needed? do you pay someone to do this or can this be done on your own fairly easy? I got a guy who is willing to trade me his SEO services for a couple details. Is this like a month to month type thing you have to constantly keep updating?

I have over a thousand hours in research and I'm still no where near pro, in my opinion a professional detailers is one that can use a rotary (correctly). Ill proabably never go pro for the fear of burning paint, each person is different, some have a natural niche for it, while others have to get a little more experience.

You should really take him up on his offer for the SEO. Just make sure he can provide previous examples of his work. SEO requires a lot of knowledge in different field combined. It's all about making your website scream "Look here!" to google. It's not easy and can take months to see results. What's hard about SEO is you don't know if you're doing it right. There's no instant gratification with it. It's all over multiple months.
