How many use gloves when detailing?

I use latex gloves sometimes mostly to keep my hands free of grease and grime.

The only part that I hate is when it comes time to change them. Usually my hands are so wet from sweat that even after washing and drying them the latex gloves are very hard to get on, even if they are powdered.

i got a pair of microphiber gloves with a wheel kit i bought off autogeek, i just use them when i do wheels, cause thats where you get the most dirty i think. I think ill start wearing latex gloves for the interior and stuff its a good point. I would buy a lot of mf gloves but there like 6 bucks a peice so im not gonna waste my money on too many of em.

I have been using Latex gloves for a while. IMO, they are a cheap and easy way to save your hands. I specifically use them for:

-Cleaning out interiors: acting like an extra layer of skin, I protect from cuts, spills, and other obstructions when cleaning out a client's vehicle

-Interior/carpet cleaning: to save my hands from chemicals

-Wheel/tire/well cleaning: Using relatively harsh chemicals, the gloves allow you to stay safe

-Claybarring: acting as an amplifier, you truly feel every single contaminant in the paint

-Dressing tires: I hate getting black gunk under my nails and this is a surefire way to prevent it.

Since using, I have noticed my hands are almost never dried out, easier cleaned, and just generally kept better.

Anyone else using? Which brand?

I always use a thin plastic disposable glove. The one you see people use in Subway

sandwich store. I use them for house cleaning as well. A box of 500 costs $5 so

1 cent per glove. I toss them away after each use.

I use a disposable pair of latex gloves, when appling Zaino leather cleaner, because I hate the smell on my hands.. but I LOVE the smell on the leather seats :)

Thanks for the Links. Found the Stanley Latex gloves (for painting) found @ Lowe's weren't bad, extremely useful throughout details. Bad thing about Latex I find they grip your hand after becoming wet or sweaty and the residue that attacts to your hand. Otherwise I love using gloves! Gotta grab some of these Nitrile gloves.

Anyone know where to get those Clean Ones Working Gloves?

i try to. but sometimes it gets in the way during polishing. if i dont while polishing, my hands starts to smell funky and feel sticky. and they start to bead water when i wash them.

I use both nitrile and vinyl gloves, depending on the use. Vinyl is closer to the cost of latex. Some people do have allergic reactions to latex, so you might want to test some first.

I wear one during the cold months to keep my righ hand from freezing...during the wash process......works rather well

I do when I use S100. Stuff irritates my hands like crazy.

Now, if I was a pro, I would for two reasons. One, just dealing with that many chemicals all day, and two, for appearance.

This sounds crazy, but one time when I took my car to a high-end shop for some work, anyone who touched the car wore gloves. If they were working on the outside, disposable vinyl. Whenever they got in the car, white cotton. Leaves a nice impression that they really care about keeping your car nice.

Great info, thanks for chiming in everyone :).

kompressor: I agree! I get compliments when I use the "white glove treatment" on customer's vehicles. I think it's a win-win situation.

One thing i don't do very much is wear gloves when waxing and sometimes when i'm done i have chapped lips. No jokes!

Chapped lips? You talkin about waxing your upper lip or the car?? :chuckle:

so what thickness of glove do you guys use? I never thought of using gloves before but I think I'm going to pick up a box to try. Did a quick search on Amazon and they come in varying thicknesses up to 8 mils. 4 mills and less seem to be the most common but I'm afraid of them ripping -- especially when doing wheels and stuff.

Thoughts?

I do occasionally. It's something I really should do more.

Same here... I have no idea what the brand name is, but I have latex and some plastic ones for somethings I may just want to pick up and toss, but not waste a latex one.
