how many times have you been pulled over?

As far as speed limits go... I'm not entirely in favor of some of them. The speed limit was imposed durring a time of national energy crisis. That problem has been solved and the need for some of the speed limits has passed. I agree that we shouldn't go 60 through residential areas or school zones, but why I have to go 70 mph through through the desert on my way to vegas is beyond me. I don't know if any of you have ever driven the road between Salt Lake and Reno, but it is horrible. 400 miles of straight away without at turn in sight. Why do I have to go 65 or 70 on a road like that? I should be able to cruise at 95. I'll always drive safely, but I won't always obey the speed limit. 95 may be a dangerous speed for a mini van to travel, but when you are in a tuned high performance car there is less to worry about. The speed limit is there for morons who have no common sense. Those of us who know better will probably always ignore half of those signs and just pay the price when we get caught. Will I ever learn my lesson? Maybe... Until then I will drive turbo charged and sport tuned cars that are designed to go much faster than the speed limit. Why would they make cars that go 200 MPH if they didn't intend for us to open them up once in awhile?

I have been on the long, uncrowded stretches of desert interstate far too many times but the fact is that most American drivers a) do not have vehicles designed for high speed driving and b) do not have the training or patience to worry only about what is happening on the road. Instead, people insist on driving SUVs (which I have nothing against, I like them), minivans, trucks, comfort tuned sedans, and driving with one hand while sipping a Big Gulp from the other. As I'm sure you know, spirited driving requires 100% attention. European auto manufacturers for the longest time could not understand why we (America) wanted cup holders.

This country could take a few lessons from Germany when it comes to roads and obtaining a driver's license. i.e., hands on driver training + a $2,500 fee. Our 15 minute DMV road tests, behind the wheel, and driver's education are an absolute joke.
 
I agree with what you are saying. What I am wondering is why when I get pulled over for going 20 over the speed limit in a Corvette the ticket is the same as if I got pulled over for going 20 over the speed limit in an Excursion. Likewise, why is the fine the same whether you are driving over the limit at 3:00 in the afternoon or 3:00 in the morning? I think the fine should be higher if you are in a van full of kids and are cutting around traffic like a madman versus being in a little Z3 and pulling the same manuvers. The level of punishment should vary depending on the seriousness of the crime I feel.
 
The level of punishment is dependent on the seriousness of the crime. 10 mph over the posted speed limit has a lesser fine and fewer points than being 30 mph over. 20 mph over the speed limit is 20 mph over the speed limit, whether you're in a Z8 or an Explorer. Just because you have a vehicle that is more performance oriented does not mean you have the skill to control the vehicle should a situation arise. It is also a situation of risk to others, and driving a performance vehicle does not reduce that risk.

Basically, I do not agree with your last post. ;)

Performance cars have better braking and handling capability, making them relatively safer compared to bulky SUVs.

Yes, but the added performance does not give you the right to drive like a bat out of hell. Humans make mistakes and unless you can control what every other driver on the road does (I know I can't), then it really doesn't matter what you drive as long as it is safe. Again, this is a situation of risk to others.
 
Not in the past 21 years (dating myself here), though I was once radared at 141 m.p.h. while racing, I was walking on a Charger that night. I didn't get caught though the guy driving the Charger (my opponent) went to jail and lost his license. I was a very stupid kid, anyway...I dirgess here. :shift

yea, ive been that way alot (i live in reno) the worst part is just after SLC through wendover and elko...straight,unlimited line of sight...i know how ya feel, another one of my favorites is 395 between reno and Four Corners just before the ridgcrest junction, flat and 4 lanes. i have never been pulled over for speeding.
 
I've only got pulled over twice in my 3 years of driving. 1 was informal by an off-duty cop who just waved his badge at me at the light and said to slow down. The other time was for having open alcohol in my car. Long story short, i'm a very precautious and safe driver so when I was at a party I wasn't going to walk 6 blocks to an italian festival, which the people who were drinking were going to do. Of course in those 6 blocks the cops were stopping everyone. I was very fortunate to just get a warning and a yelling from my mom. Its great the way gossip and word travels. The next night people were asking me how jail was and these other crazy claims. I was like wow word travels fast and gets altereted even faster.
 
for the most part, all of my speeding is done on freeways and stuff and not residential areas, thats dangerous of course. what i really hate is when you have those places where the speed marked is 35, but in reality everyone does 50 becuase its a dead straight away. those are probably the places where im most likely to get a ticket. theres usually a lot of traffic on the freeways in hawaii so you cant really get up to about 70 mph unless you weave, which not not too good at. at like 12 PM theres open roads, but i had a pretty scary experience with a cop and a radar one night so i actually do the speed limit at night.

pretty ironic huh? i speed in the afternoon when theres more cars, and i drive the speed limit at night when theres open roads :lmfao.
