On another forum, I saw a thread discussing how many microfibers people owned.
That got me thinking, how many microfibers do you need?
In my case, no where near as many as I own.
Washing:
Whether it be a conventional wash, a rinseless wash or a waterless wash, 2 to 6 would be maximum and usually no more than 4.
Add 2 to 3 for windows and a total of 9 per wash at the most. (Normally about 6)
I use cotton terry towels for tires, wheels, wheel wells, engine compartment, trunk, and interior cleaners/dressings.
No way are my MF towels going to be used on grunge areas and I don't want them loaded with dressings for leather or vinyl, either.
Polishing:
Usually 1, but occasionally 2.
Removing Wax/Sealant:
Again, usually 1, occasionally 2.
I do use Opti-Seal a lot and don't need any with it.
Quick Detailing:
Usually 2, but this is something I rarely do anymore.
So, for me,it looks like 15 would be a lot of MFs for me to use at one time.
Two of our cars are washed at least weekly, so 30 MFs should let me do both of them before needing to wash a load.
Very seldom do I have more than 15 towels to wash at a time.
Obviously, I can be washing and drying a load while I am doing another vehicle so 30 would seem to be plenty, maybe even more than needed. It is nice to have enough that dropping one or getting it contaminated in some way doesn't run you out of enough towels to complete your project.
For a hobby detailer, a little foresight, (Don't do the full detail on more than one car at a time), should allow you to get by on less than 20 towels and not run yourself short.
Like most, I do happen to own about 3 times that many, but I certainly don't need that many.
