How long does your foam pad last?

and how bad is the build up when use? which builds up the most/fastest? when polishing or waxing? is it hard as it sound cleaning foam pads when there's a build up?

It seems almost like your asking two questions at once.

I mean product build up to me is not and indication of the useful life (longevity) of a foam pad.

A properly manufactuered foam pad (where the backing doesn't seperate from the foam) that is well care for should last years. I have some that I've had for over 4 years that still look and work great.

Product build up is another question entirely.

Edge claims about 20 cars per pad. I have a pad that's about 4 years old that's been used on a rotary about a dozen times and it still looks pretty decent.

Sounds like you are talking about the pads while they are in use. We typically use 2 pads with compound on the rotary, and 1 pad with polish and wax on the PC. We do not like using the foam pad spur as we feel it causes excessive wear even with light pressure. It also depends on the size of the vehicle and condition it is in. We've been able to do my Escalade with 1 pad for polish, but we've used 2-3 on other SUV's, once again paint condition being the major factor.

We just recently converted over to the Edge 2000 system for both the rotary and PC's. Our last order of LC pads have lasted about 60-100 cars depending on which pad we used the most. Our LC white pads tend to get the most use so they would be closer to the 100 vehicle number. They have pretty much reached their life expectency and now will be downgraded to "home use" ie countertops, showers...etc.

Wetwerks,

I totally agree with not using a spur... it really decreased the life of my pads significantly.

I use between 4-6 pads per vehicle. When they will cake up with product I just dump them in a bucket with some cleaner and rinse after my session is done.

I have begun using the 5.5" low profile pads and 4" pads w/pc a lot more in my details and am really happy. They dont bog down so much as the 6.5". Corrections w/ a 4" = :up

They rinse out a lot easier too.

I do about 1-2 details a week and my pads are still going strong after many many months. I have replaced a few here and ther but mostly 4 inchers.
