How hard is it to build a shed?

I have built a few of the home made ones like pockets had shown, but it is soooo much easier to pick up one of the prefab ones. It takes time and guess work out of the building process.

Good luck with either one you choose. Oh and don't forget the pics when you are done.

i just want to emphasize the part about snow load on those prefab shelters. the work very well. I had one similar in size to the one that Pockets showed on his post. Living in Toronto you will have winter and snow load. So either you will be out pushing snow off the roof to keep it up right or do as I did and structurally enhance the building with four by fours and some plywood. I did it when I was living in Fairbanks and the building is over twenty years old now and still holds the snow. Without it it would have collapsed from the snow load.

Good luck!!

I never thought about the snow:hmmm: You are absolutely right about reinforcing the roof,
excellent recommendation.thank you.
Cwcad ,I'll post a few pics of before & after.

I looked into building one from scratch when we lived in NY. It ended up being cheaper to buy a pre-built one. This was in 2005, so lumber prices were a bit crazy from the previous hurricane season.

For this house, I plan on buying a small kit from Home Depot. The other option is a Tuff Shed. They come out and do everything from leveling the ground to hauling out the trash. It's also warrantied for several years too. The prices are higher though, so we'll have to weigh those factors into the decision.

Well, I will be watching the forum for the pictures and your comments from the experience.

Pockets,,thanks for the pics,The small one is exatly what I'm after. So you and your dad made them w/o any diagrams? WOW,the big one must be huge.

yup its pretty big :wow: . the lumber was a little expensive but the thing is so strong and sturdy so it was worth the extra cost. It keeps the mice out to (which is very hard to do :passout: ) we give them "magic food" in the other shed (pre fab) because they were eating the wires on the tractor when it was in that one. since then we haven't had any problems. :bigups
