how do you track customers?

I pondered using Excel, then I thought I`d look into free CMS`s/CMR`s, I found a few that looked nice. And I signed up for Bitrix24, but after playing with it. I realize it does way more than I need, and doesn`t seem best suited for what I`m after. Here`s what I want to be able to do. Put a customers info in, and any time I do a detail for them I can enter it. And search and find people and jobs I`ve done. Pretty basic, I could build a database in Access, but it`s been like 15 years since I`ve touched it. Tried last night and I forgot most of what I knew. I`m not looking at something to do invoicing or billing or anything like that. Is there anything simple that`s not expensive, or requires $25-100 a month to use? I`m trying to be more organized this time around. If I had this in place a few years ago when I detailed, I could call all the people back and let them know I`m back in town. But now I don`t even have any names or numbers so I`m starting over

Detailers tend to be OCD/meticulous so I`m guessing someone here knows the software I`m after.

I was looking at the reviews on the app store, like 15 people and all but one hated it :( It`s only $5 so I probably should try it any ways, but the blows if it`s not very good because it`s almost exactly what I`m after.

I was thinking something like this...

Why not just use something like Evernote? Notebook for customers and one note for each customer. Free too.

What are you using for a point of sale? Ive been using Square for years and it gives me everything I need. I input all of my customers, create appointments (with automatic email and text reminders for them), create invoices for their appointments, a log is kept of their visits, what they spent, what services, everything. Best part is its all basically free unless you use it for credit/debit card processing (which costs a small fee no matter where you go). They also have marketing tools that allow you to send marketing emails and messages. This costs a little bit but keeps me in touch with ALL of my clients if I offer new services or sales.

Wow that sounds like a sales pitch... Square has been great though. Makes my life wayyyy easier, especially now that im booking 2-3 appointments a day and im constantly about 3 weeks out on availability
