How do you guys take off polishing/waxing compound off the car ? faster ways?

I was just curious whats the easiest and fastest way to take off polish compound of the car after polishing and waxing it? I did my first polishing yesterday and tried wiping it off with a microfiber towel and yeah about 95% of it came off but some still was on like cracks side doors etc. It takes way to long to wipe everything down so I was wondering how do you guys do it ? Do you wash the car again ?

I have found that washing (free flow) works in some degree, but in my experience dust remains in cracks etc. The only way I have found working is to get 'intimate' with a brush and solution (shampoo/ONR etc.). If I had access to air I would try that as well for a touchless result.

It depends on what I am using. If its 105/205, a re-wash for sure, that dust gets everywhere. With Optimum or UNO I can get away with QD.

I generally get polish/compound residue off before it dries (hence it's seldom a big problem), but yeah..rewashing after heavy compounding and PrepWash/etc. sometimes PrepWash/etc. after polishing if I have a reason to.

If I'm gonna be doing some really serious correction I'll tape up gaps/etc. to keep product from getting in there, and then go back and deal with the taped-over areas separately.

LSP residue isn't an issue as I keep it off things I don't want it on and I use so little that it's never a big deal. I do fog the surface with my breath during the final buffing though, and IMO that helps make it go better.

This sounds like a good plan dude, yeah I was just curious how do you guys do it. But i mean some of you guys dont rewash the car? What type of compound do you guys use ?

Cracks, seams, moldings, etc a detail brush.

Then you use an instant detailer to pick up any dust that comes out on to the finish.

Washing is ok, but do it before you put on your wax.

For plastic/rubber moldings, I will use a tooth brush dipped in a little APC. For anything painted (actual car surface or matched bumper), I will use a MF towel with liberal application of QD. I rather get streaks of QD than more micro-marring from excessive hard scrubbing trying to remove polishing residue.

I still use the Meguiar's 80-series and Menzerna FPII/IP polishes which tend to dust a lot - There are times when I just decide to wash the car again.

One more tip. You can trim the pink eraser with a razor blade to deal with even very tight seams. This takes off any polish or wax with a single swipe and doesn't mar the paint. An eraser pencil also works well for these tight seams that gather product.

The biggest thing you can do is use less polish in the first place, most people use way too much and it compounds the removal process.

Pun intended?:tongue2:

A few things, first, along with Scott, it's real easy to use too much product. A little is good, more is not better. Next, maybe you're waiting too long to remove the product. I fine I have to vary my removal time depending on humidity and temperature. Finally, I go over the car with a QD to remove any dust or residue in the cracks.

BTW, I like the pink eraser idea, I'm going to steal that one!

After a compoumding and polishing session, I rerinse the tentire car with degreaser and pressure wash everything off. It strips all polishing oils and removes all dust. Spend time on this step and your detailing just got a whole lot easier!

Dawn foam soak afterwards for the polishing oils on the paint. As for the dusting in the door jambs, etc. I just wait to detail those very last with QD or waterless wash solution and a MF or brush.

I will often wipe off big areas using multiple towels under the buffer. Speeds things up and is safe. For the excess dust and such I always quick detail, never wash.
