how do you guys get that perfect mirror finish?

i see so many cars on here that have a mirror looking finish. whenever im done with my car, it has a kind of wavey fnish to it

i use meguiars 9 7 and 26 with a PC DAP. shoudl i just apply like, 2 or 3 layers of 7? i usually only have time for one layer

Get a Bentley or a Rolls if you want mirror flat paint, or spend about $1000-1500 having your paint wetsanded and buffed.

Really not many other options.

Just another one, take pics of your car after detailing and compare them with the other pics you see. I'm sure you'll find it looks like most of the other cars you see detailed.

I think 2 keys to a "best possible" finish are using a claybar after washing, then selecting the right type of polish(es) before the final wax.

With Meg's 9 swirl remover you might need a more aggressive polish or just try something different if that isnt getting the result you want. Meg's 7 will produce a nice gloss, but its only a glaze, not cutting or cleaning. If it was me I would wash, clay, then try Meg's DACP or Speed Glaze as step 3 for more aggressive cleaning/polishing. If you use Speed Glaze you can skip using Meg's 7 and go straight to wax. Just my 2 cents.

Just one more point and this is the best lesson I've learned from Autopia is that 80-85% of the final shine comes BEFORE the final wax. That includes clay & polish and any prep work. So try to get the best combination of polishes first, then a great final wax (I love Blitz myself) and your vehicle should look great.

Yep, it's all about the prep.

But detailing can only do so much to bring back paint. If your paint is too far gone you'll never get the kind of results you've seen posted here.

Paint quality is also a very important factor. Go buy yourself a new black German car and you'll get a mirror finish with little effort.

Agreed.:up

Do a title search here for "orange peel". You should be able to turn up several threads and some decent pictures explaining this effect. It's very common on all cars and it's rare to get a "normal" car without at least some of this.
