I decided to beat the grime with my new econobox and seal the.. Whatever you call this part of the body.

Note, this was my second time using KHGSG and first time using on such a small area. I had almost no difficulty removing the haze. I had to use a little QD for the spots where the pad first made contact

Aha! That's the word I was looking for.

I also KSG'd everywhere the rubber seals contact on the doors, with the hope that rubber transfer from the seals is minimized as well.

Yep! Door jamb area or b-pillar.

Door jamb: A doorjamb, door jamb or simply jamb (also sometimes doorpost) is the vertical portion of the frame onto which a door is secured.

Detailing is all about the details, and keeping the door jambs clean and shiny is just as important as the hood imo.

The last time I wiped down my door jambs I used Polish Angel Sprayduster, but I usually use Poorboys Spray and Wipe or ONR (at QD Dilution).
 
alexxxx89-Ah, glad to see people paying attention to such areas, good job! I'd go for at least six layers so it *stays* sealed, IME KSG only exhibits its *GREAT* durability when it's heavily layered, whereupon it *does* really last and protect.

Another good area to do (and another one that's a little tricky to describe) is the area inside the gap between the rear portion of the front fender and the front edge of the front door (did that make any sense?!?). Polishing in there is a bit tricky, but it smooths the paint (which is often a bit iffy in that area). Once it's LSPed it's easy enough to clean with a wet-with-shampoo MF. One of those areas that's often overlooked, but I've *never* washed a vehicle that didn't have at least a little dirt in there (I often wash such areas with a white MF to see if it gets dirty)

After a little research, it looks like that's called the "hinge pillar".

vega- Ah, yeah...thanks!

Once these areas are nice, it's pretty easy to keep 'em that way. The big chore is the intial job. But I sure do get compliments on keeping those areas nice, even from people who aren't into this stuff.
 
I have actually used a PC with a 3" pad and some light-medium polish on my own cars and then lsp'd. You won't be able to access all areas of the jambs but enuf of the area to make it worthwhile. Nothing looks as good as shiny jambs when the doors open.
 
jmsc- I usually end up having to do the vast majority of the work with cloths (terry first then MF) wrapped around long sticks/etc. It's a huge PIA taking just *so* long, but at least it usually only needs done once.


And just for the record, NO I don't do that to every vehicle ;)
