How do you deal with Van/SUV windshields?

I was wondering how you guys get up close to clean or polish windshields on vans or SUVs? I notice I cannot reach the whole window on my Toyota Sienna even if I stand inside the car and reach over from each side. I know if you use a tool you can reach the whole window, but what if you have a rock chip in the middle, how do you get up close and personal so you can work on it? I can kind of see if you're tall enough you can lean in from the center of the hood but then you'll be laying on the car.

So just looking for ideas on how you guys deal with detailing the windshield.

Same way you would detail the roof. Get a ladder or step stool and get to work. Living in Country Bumkin Texas it's a pain in the Arse because I do so many large trucks and SUV's. If I detail a car I only need minimal space for my supplies.....SUV's and large trucks make me carry a ladder around.

Doesn't help though, the window is so big on the van that to get your head to the center you basically have to lay on the window even if you had a step stool to get you up. I guess my concern is I have a rock chip on the bottom center of the window and I can't get close enough to work on it from the outside without laying myself across the van.

Since I am 6'5", I don't have the problem of not being able to reach. Even with a 6" lift and 35's on my truck, with a small step stool, I can reach the entire thing. The only thing I don't like is I have to detail the roof outside because there is only about 4" from the top of the truck to the garage door opener and about another 10" to the ceiling.

This will give you about a 14" further reach. It's really designed for the inside of a windshield, but it also works great for exterior.....

Glassmaster Pro... available everywhere... (Google it)...

Ok, lets say you guys need to get up close to the center of the window with your head, not just your arm, so head reach lets say. None of the solutions so far will help me get my head to the bottom center of the windshield without contact with the paint or windshield with lots of weight.

I've got a rock chip I want to seal in the bottom but center part of the window, and I can't get close enough to inspect and work the glass repair system without actually laying on some part of the car. And at my weight I don't really want to lay on any part of the car.

I actually already have a glass master pro and I use that to clean the windshield. But in my case that isn't going to solve my problem of getting close enough to work on window damage.

Sorry... mis-understood your post. Any friends in the house-painting business? Scaffolding comes to mind.
