How do you deal with this....inconsiderate people and door dings?

I park in a parking garage at work and usually no one parks next to me due to the fact that on the passenger side is 1 small spot with a concrete post on the other side. No one parks on the left side of my car since there's no spot- just the aisle.

To make a long story short, I come out and wedged between me and the post is a car that someone obviously doesn't give two hoots about. I noticed that there is no possible way they could have opened their door without banging into mine.

It really bothers me that people who don't care about thier cars seem to feel other's don't either. I'm really tempted tomorrow to park over the lines.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.....

I carry a Louisville Slugger for just such occasions.Sometimes you just have to school the disrespecting.

Never park where you will cross lines or otherwise take up 2 spaces. This will get you vandalized worse than having your door dinged.

[Pre-Emptive Finger Wagging] Please keep any retribution suggestions civil, non-violent, and non-pyromaniacal, people. Thanks! [/Pre-Emptive Finger Wagging]

:D

I'll say nothing more in that I've read about someone's very inventive use of a pair of wire cutters :D

Where do you cut? Under the wheels?

I carry a nice little bottle of acid in the back seat with a cup over the cap. A bat makes too much noise.

[joke]

Bring at least 5 oz. of acrylic thinner and let the liquid sit on that car's hood but be sure you do this when you're leaving the parking space...;)

[/joke]

I carry some of those small plastic gas canisters that women use in portable hair-stylers.

Anyone who pisses me off get one popped all the way up their exhaust pipe. When they drive off, they have about ten minutes before ***BOOOOOM*** - end of problem.

Face

PS I don't really do this, but it's not a bad idea, tho' :)

Oh yeah! :xyxthumbs

actually what I mean is... is there something else to help protect the door in case some classless idiot does open thier hoopdy door against mine?

If you have the chance to use a good car cover, that would certainly help to prevent the 'accidental' dings - but nothing will prevent the ding when a 'blue hair' in a Caddie kicks her door open . . . Some people just don't have a clue. . .

Bk, if you're occupying the same spot every day, I would be real careful with any "punitive" damage that may occur. The person is gonna figure out real quik who is responsible.

I know how you feel....some days you just can't win. You need to understand that some people don't "get it" and some people simply DO NOT care.

Sure, you can get a car cover with integrated rub strips and you can also purchase the magnetic bump strips that you put in place once parked. I see all of this as an open invitation to the knumb-knutz parking on top of you to test the effectiveness with their rusty car door. :angry

Is there an alternate excellent parking spot you can use?

Nope, I don't get even with other people's cars. Its not worth it if you get caught so the best thing is not to do it.

I'm already scoping out new spots just in case and a couple look promising.

Reminds me of the time I was sitting in my Car, outside a pizza shop, and a Lady in a big black Caddilac escalade pulls up next to me, real close. Mind you, I'm sitting in the car, so I think to myself "Dumb person, but at least she cant ding me because I'm sitting here". She looks down out her window, and sees me sitting there, smiles a normal friendly smile, and proceeds to slam her door wide open into the side of my car!!!!! I was like WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTT. I got out of the car and did my best to keep from screaming (she had children with her). "Excuse me, but what the hell was that al about" Her reply"what?". "Ma'am, you just opened your door directly into my car, did you not hear the bang??" (as I inspect the side of my car for damage, luckily she hit the rub rail - but her carelessness was what ticked me off) Her reply "Oh, yeah but its black on black, so it doesn't make a mark". I was like "are you KIDDING me?!?!?!?!?!?!" She was all flustered and told me I needed to calm down and stop overreacting, that opening a black door into another black door isn't going to cause any marks. I simply told her that she was lucky I am forgiving, and lucky that she hit the rub rail, because had she hit my paint, I would have called her insurance company. and in addition, were she to do it again to someone else's car, they might not be forgiving. She walked off looking at me in disgust, like I was some sort of freak who just "didn't get it", that its not gonna make a difference on the same color car, and that I was overreacting. Just typing this makes me shake my head in disbelief that people can be so STUPID.

Truck owners face this often as most parking spots are spaced for the car owner. I park with my F150 Supercrew and in some lots I touch the lines on both sides.

I try to park defensively and tend to park away from others and take the walk.

Here in the city if you take up two spots you become a prime target for parking spot rage.

Super Buick,

I admire how civil you were with that woman ( Jeez ,Caddy drivers getting a bad rap:( ) I probably would have demonstrated for her on her black car how black shows the MOST damage.

BK1,

Funny you mentioned driving away once someone else came close by. I just did that a few months ago :D

Those magnetic guard strips likethe ding me nots are bad. They can easily marr the paint especially on black. Mine will be trashed. But at least, since you can get them in black, on a black car they just look like very bad body accenting rather than obvious inventions for someone to "test their effectiveness with their rusty door"

We really need a better, safe, effective product for these door ding risk situations.

I usually try to park as far away from everyone else in a parking lot. I'd rather make the long walk than park up close so every idiot can use my car to slow down the velocity of their opening door!! My wife thinks i'm nuts. For the last month or two, at least once a week i'll park real far only to come out and find someone right next to me. I mean there could be 50 empty spots around. I never take 2 spots. I think that's obnoxious and an invite to get keyed. Last week I parked, had to be 50-75 spots empty around me. I come out of the store and there is a car so close to mine I couldn't open my door all the way. I had to squeeze in. I don't want to start a flame here, but it seems that "most" of the time it's a woman (or a real short guy, since the drivers seat is usually pulled way up close to the wheel). I was going to leave a note, nothing nasty when I saw a middle aged woman approaching the car. I rolled down my window and asked her if the car was hers. She said yes, was there a problem. I asked her if there was any particular reason she parked there with all the open spots. She mumbled something, looked at me with disgust and got in her car (squeezed in her car, actually) and drove off

Geez, I could have written those words. We've all lived thru it. Yeah, huge parking lot, open spots everywhere but some effin' moron decides they are going to park on top of you. Nothing pisses me off more. I will confess to leaving reminders once or twice that their proximity made me nervous....very nervous. :angry

Taking up two spots is guaranteed trouble. At least in my corner of the world. There are times when it just doesn't pay to have a nice ($$) car....the jealousy factor is way too high and there are plenty of people out there that don't think twice about raining on your parade...er, car. I go out of my way not to damage others' property (car) and don't know why they are unwilling to extend the same courtesy to me.

After having spent much time travelling/living outside of the US, I make it a point to do a casual door ding survey when I'm out. I hate to say it but the severity we see here is somewhat unique to America. There is simply no respect for the property of others.
