How do I remove tar

Wow, sorry about the tar. I usually use Tar-x, but that is on small splotches. I like the polish idea. Maybe Menzerma FG400 would cut it. Got to put the polish idea in my memory bank somehow.

I wanted better shots but heres a few teasers. My kid sent them.
I`m sure its all on the lower panels too.
Nice and hot When applied.

Ow doesn`t cut it for that one.

May as well have asked how to remove the road from the car.

I`ve used Oil-Flo 141 Water Rinse Adhesive Remover Spray for years in prepping my summer and winter wheels, it removes the tar spots pretty easily.

You can get it at Home Depot, but you may have to get it Shipped to the Store for pickup.

Sorry about the mess... please update on what luck u had ??

sent from me

Sure will
Im going with Propolish on the paint to try.
I`m going to see what`s the best option by testing everything that`s more aggressive in the wheel wells.

Gonna try that home depot stuff too.
Thx

You`ll need a lot of tarminator. I think mineral spirits or turpentine would be more cost effective in your case.

Did I misunderstand or misinterpret something?!? Sure wouldn`t be the first time :o

oh ,, I missed that too or just didn`t know that the Menzerna was abrasive ... ..solvent based polish for the paint ...many solvents themselves can yellow clearcoats, and when dealing with a light color like white, it would be very evident ...

after seeing the pictures , there may be no other way to go ... that is just plain nasty looking :(

Poorboy- I did a quickie lookup and yeah, the FG400 is a compound. (Heh heh, I`m nobobdy`s Menzerna expert!)

Yeah#2 I should`ve been more specific about "solvent", I was thinking of known-safe stuff like 3m Adhesive Remover or ValuGard`s New Car Prep.

Well so far.
Tarminator works pretty well.
At $7 for a 10oz can its not cost effective. Anyone notice how large the can is? Its oversized to look like your getting a lot more.
Nothing is removing the heavy thick stuff easily on the lower wheel well lips. Also many areas of the wells are caked inside.
I tested Poorboys PP.
That definitely disolves the tar too, but I don`t have the patience. I`ll be using PP when I polish out the whole car. There`s tar mist all over the sides but hard to see until you rub the PP and see brown smearing as it dissolves.
I stood in the Lowes paint section for a while looking up all the chemicals.
Decided to try a gallon of odorless mineral spirits. I read that`s what`s in Tarminator minus the oomph other chemicals.
It supposedly doesn`t harm cured paint. I tried it as it was getting dark. Rubbing does remove it. But the thick stuff is like concrete.
Ron may be right with the hammer and chisel.
Once my son gets up, I`m taking it to the car wash and power washing the wells out to see if any peels away.
What`s really bothering me is if I rub my hand inside the wells they get black from the tar.
This means i can`t allow this car on my driveway. I`m afraid after he drives in a rain and parks on it i may have brown staining all over it.
Any thoughts?
I can`t answer the question. Was he really told to drive where he did, or did he not pay attention when the flagman directed him where to drive.
As a few of you know what my son is dealing with, I can`t even yell at him over this.
I`ll just do a section at a time the best I can.

I would really like to see a picture of that car with the tar on it.

I`m thinking gasoline to loosen it up and then professional grade tar remover. It sounds like a lot of tar.
