How do I minimize dusting with IP?

Hi-

I used IP for the first time last Firday, and it seemed to dust like crazy. Kind of big dust debris. It was not a horrible to deal with, but seemed a little unusual.

I was using a Sonus SFX white polishing pad. I may have been using too much product, it seemed to dry after the first pass, then the second pass would result in dusting.

I followed up with FPII, what a great combo.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Steve

As you suggested you may have used too much product. One thing I like to do to reduce dusting and extend the working time of IP is to give the pad a few squirts of QD before each panel. It seems to extend the working time quite a bit and as long as you don't work the polish dry there's much less dusting.

What color was your car? I know, especially on a black car w/IP, its like snow flakes all over the car. I primed the pad and try not to use soo much. A 3 dime size its good enough.

Mixing in a little RMG (say 25%) cuts down on dust dramatically. If I want, I can virtually eliminate dust with IP by grabbing a fresh pad about every 3 panels (IP/RMG) begins to dry, it will eventually dust). Also, the closed cell pads like the SFX are great, but they are also really hard to completely flush free of product after use...so rinse and squeze out dilegently after each use.

I get dusting bad with IP if I use too much product. Try cutting back once the pad is primed and see if that will cut down on the dusting.
