How Do I Clean My Seatbelts?

I recently created a series of "How Do I?" threads. I forgot this one:

My new car has a light tan interior. (What was I thinking when I shopped for this car on the Internet? I guess I had a brain :fart )

I've heard that you have to be very careful cleaning seatbelts so that you don't wear the threads. What is the safest way to keep them clean?

Thanks,
Charles

I did a quick search on tihs here and this link came up. Seatbelts are tricky and I tend to stay away if possible. Hope this helps in anyway. One thing that I do know is get some clothes pins to hold the belt in the full open position, until they are fully dry.

Whoa. This C-28 not only cleans seat belts, but carpets, upholstery, GLASS, I could use this in the house! This is exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for. It says it won't harm the fibers when used at the recommended 1:1 ratio.

Thanks!

Thanks

I hope this works for you and please let us all know what the results are. I also did a search on the net but nothing came up that was of any use.

I recently spilled coke all over me and the seatbelt. Not recommended if you have a choice. :)

I sprayed it with the 303 Aerospace Cleaner and then wiped it off with a damp terry towel. I wrapped it around the steering wheel to dry. This worked well for me. I see 303 now has a "fabric cleaner." I don't know what the difference is.

If the stain is fresh like a new spill then a APC will take care of it. Its the ones where they are years old or have got caught in the door and have grease on them that the cleaners are best. Seatbelts are real a tight weave and I'd have to bet that would require soaking them.

I once wondered the same thing about the fabric cleaner, so I emailed 303 and asked them. Basically, the fabric cleaner is the aerospace cleaner diluted 30:1!!! So if you have the aerospace cleaner the fabric cleaner is a rip off! Here is the exact reply I got from 303:

Thank you for your question.

The 303 Aerospace cleaner is the same as 303 Cleaner & Spot remover only much more concentrated.
1 gallon of the Aerospace Cleaner will make 30/40 gallons of Cleaner & Spot Remover.

Thanks for that. I'm not surprised. I already have a bottle I diluted 30:1 myself for just that purpose. :hah
