How did I do it without...

... Some halogen lamps! I was startting a detail of my STI today, it was partly cloudy at first, but then got cloudy. I was working on some tough winter swirls so I needed some light. I went to Home Depot and bought a 2 500w halogen with tripod setup. It was like night and day . I cant believe I have been detailing for this long and hadn't gotten them sooner. Cheap, but make a HUGE difference. :spot :waxing: :woot2:

does it really make a diff...i dont have on yet i too went to home depot 15 min before they close and they have commercial line name of brand on sale for 43 buxs doal halo. nor 55 bux 1000watt im debating on that or this other brand dont recall but it lime green but its 65 for 1500 watt dual halo. but it had 6 select of brightness upto 1500......so it works good better then florescent......

I just moved it to each side and front and back. It has a disconnect feature so I used that for the roof :)

FYI- I was at Sears today and picked up a kit with two halogen work lights and a telescoping tripod stand up to 7 ft tall (I think)- switchable 250-500-750-1000 watt - haven't opened the box but for $24.77 plus tax on sale I figured I couldn't pass them up. I have another one from Sears that sits on the floor and it has lasted for 5 years no problems.

I use the same one, working great so far--though it has blown two bulbs in the three weeks that I have had it. While that could be my fault, I still give the lights a thumbs up!!

IMO, the halogens are more harsh than natural sunlight, I will not detail without them.

Only problem I have with Halogens... is you need to use them in a garage, or after twilight. Tough in some instances if you're mobile.

But they are awesome when you have the right lighting conditions. I second that. :xyxthumbs

I've got halogens and a search caught this thread so...finding time to detail my car is tough.

I've got a 9-5er, a 3 month old, no garage or shade to call my own. I'm limited to 6PM and on during the week and sometimes have Saturday or Sunday free.

I picked up one of Menzerna's kits that comes with their shampoo, FPII, Finishing Touch Glaze, FMJ, and High Gloss Acrylic Shield along with some other porducts and microfiber applicators and rags to take care of my 2006 Obsidian Black Pearl Subaru Impreza.

I'm thinking it will take me at least 4 hours to apply the above by hand (including the wash). Am I crazy to break out the lights and do it in the dark???

Bill

I would call you carazy for applying the Menzerna line by hand. I think there are some good deals on the PC at Lowe's and you can pick up an LC starter kit for like $50 plus shipping. It will save you tons of elbow grease and make those 4hours more effective. :xyxthumbs
