How come the coin-op wash spotted my paint?

I think you read it wrong:



They Ranked As Follows With 1 Being the Most Abrasive, And 4 Being The Least Abrasive:



4-P21S GEPC

3-PPCL

2-Zymol HD-C

1-3M SMR





4 being least, 1 being most



1 = 3m SMR

2 = Zymol



Zymol is less abrassive than SMR, but more so than PPCL or GEPC
 
I think you should tape record that conversation with Zymol, convert it to a .wav file, host it online, and let us all listen to it. Dollars to donuts they'll say, "nope, no abrasives". Their ingredients list already proves there is a mechanical abrasive in HD Cleanse. How much remains to be seen. We may never know.



If you get water spots don't forget to try white vinegar and see if that will dissolve them. Water spots can be all kinds of stuff; calcium, potassium, lime, quartz, 24k gold, whatever. Unless you are looking at them under a magnifying glass there's no telling if they etched into your paint or are sitting on top of it. Vinegar is cheap and easy and it makes for a quick test. If you live in So Cal you should invest in a 10 gallon drum of white vinegar, that's how frequently you'll use it.

Most competitive products incorporate abrasive "grit" to "scrub" the surface clean. I think HD-Cleanse also plays the roll of a polish/glaze since they don't actualy make a polish/glaze.



This is my attack plan:



1. 3M SMR the whole car with a white pad (possibly yellow if results aren't acceptable)

2. Zymol HD-Cleanse either by hand or with the PC and a white pad

3. Zymol Carbon over the whole car by hand (the only way)



I may just do half the hood with the HD Cleanse and the other half with just SMR/Carbon and see if I can actually tell a difference. Supposedly according to Zymol's website the wax actually enhances the paint shine with some special stuff they put in there.... :bow
 
I have encountered the same problem with Zaino and watermarks. I've just switched to Blackfire, and the Paint Polish removed 90% of the watermarks, and I'm going to see if the Paint Protector reduces the watermarking.



I've got Blackfire on the boot/trunk lid, and there isn't any watermarking, but I've got Zaino on the roof and bonnet, which is where the watermarking is most severe.



I'm in Melbourne, Australia, and we have some of the best (read soft) water in the world, but the watermarking probably came from dirty rain with heavy wind mixing dust full of minerals from the desert areas. I think the lesson is to be careful about leaving rain water to evaporate from the car.
