How can we use social networks (like facebook) to improve our image

Scott,

Where did you go to find your 12-digit ID? This would be the best way for me to link to FB profiles, but I think it's too hard to find... or am I missing something?

db

I am assuming it is the number that shows when you click on your profile.

Not true Brad (unfortunately) - since the car is around other cars/people, detailed cars do get messed up. At least spot correction is needed from time to time.

Hey Thomas. I hope everything is going well. I was really talking about correcting the whole car, as a result of improper washing. My point was that if a car is being maintained properly, it should never need the entire car corrected. That is what I try to communicate to my customers.

David - Where and how much do we pay? Where do I sign up?

The problem with this is that the overhead checking to make sure someone meets the requirement make it not worth it.

I have tried in the past to come up with ideas to help you guys promote your business. I can put database applications together very fast, but if no one is going to use them, what's the use? This is why other sites that have had this idea in the past have failed.

IMHO, marketing yourself as a "detailer" or a "paint correction specialist" is all wrong. These are job titles, not products. If you guys want results, don't worry about the guys who muddies the water with hack jobs. You can't change that. What you can change is how you market your own service so people understand the difference between what "they do" and what you offer.

In this regard. Facebook is a great tool to get the word out and let your loyal customers toot your horn for you.

I agree. A lot of you guys spend way too much time worrying about "the hacks" instead of trying to promote your own business. And I feel if you are having a hard time selling your detailing than you are probably in an area/market that doesn't want that type of service. I do both express and full blown concours detailing. I do a lot more express details. I give the customer what they want, and most just want their car clean and shiny.

Great ideas and implementation!

For those that need help, here is where you find your FB ID:

After clicking on your home/name, look here in the url:

Code:
http://www.facebook.com/todd.schmidt.wi#/todd.schmidt.wi?ref=name

Mine is "todd.schmidt.wi"

Looking at Scott's page, this would be his ID:

Code:
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000351694611

"100000351694611"

It is different looking at someone's pages as opposed to finding your own. To find your own, you need to look where I found mine on the first url.

I think the difference with Rasky's is the fact that it is a facebook "page" and not a profile. My FB is only personal for now and haven't connected it with my detailing yet, but I have a page created and waiting under the same login, it's just hidden for now.

Anybody remember webrings?? Hah...

Maybe we could get a facebook page together of Autopian detailers and all link each other to the page.
