How can I tell what version of 105 I have?

This may sound like an odd question, but I bought a sample of M105 from ADS and it came in the old bottle along with a note saying that it was the new stuff but that they didn't have new labels for it yet.

Now I've never used any kind of polish so I'm not sure what to expect, but this stuff doesn't look or act like any of the umpteen videos I've looked at on AG, youtube, here, etc. First of all, it never becomes translucent like all the videos say a polish does when it's broken down. Sometimes I'll put it on a panel and it dusts immediately. The lubricant seems to last for less than a minute and then it seems like I'm dry buffing.

I also got a 205 sample and it acts more like what all those videos show but it doesn't turn truly translucent either. Am I doing something wrong? Did I get the old version by accident? Or are these quirks I can expect from the 105/205 twins? I've got some Pinnacle XMT on the way to compare to the Meg's stuff but it won't be here until Tuesday. Maybe this 105 stuff isn't the best for a beginner, but I couldn't pass up the sample price or ignore all the raves for it. Any help would be appreciated. Also anyone with experience with XMT, please chime in too. Thanks!

I have 105, the new version, and have had a couple of times where it dusted, not necessarily a bad thing if it dust, as long as you are not dry buffing it is ok. It does not use diminishing abrassives that break down like the Pinnacle XMT series of polishes (have them as well and like them, especially the ultra fine swirl remover #1)

if it starts to dust, spritz a spray of water on the area and buff it a little longer. Once the defect is removed you can stop buffing and wipe off the area and move to the next area.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'm in luck, my XMT 1 and 3 showed up early! So from the sound of it, I guess I do have M105 v.2? Well, I guess I'll just have to practice a bit more on my s**tbox Civic before I move to my wife's newer, much nicer Honda. And practice some more with her's before I touch my M3! Thanks for the quick reply, 02ZX9R.

No problems.

The XMT line of polishes/compounds is pretty good at least I think so. The #3 is a good one to use in place of 105, but not as much bite

105 will not break down, use with caution.

205 is non-diminishing as well, but it doesn't look the same as 105 while working it in. That's where I was confused, I guess.

Is 205 really non-diminishing? Like 105, 205 does diminish in the sense it is a liquid and as it works it can quickly to dust. Meg's just says it is small particle from what I have read.
