How can I reduce Kb size of photos

Hi,



I'm new to posting pics online. I successfully posted one here already but took another pic this morning and the gallery said the Kb size of my pic is too big.:confused: :nixweiss I have no idea how my first pic was a smaller Kb size. Is there any way to reduce the amount of Kb in order to post my pic? And if not, how can I take a pic that will be smaller in Kb? :nixweiss

Well there are basically two ways to make a digital picture smaller in file size.



(1)You can make the picture smaller by cropping or just scaling down.



(2)You can lower the quality of the picture with Adobe Photoshop for example.



But, not knowing what software you're using, I cannot give you a specific answer. Hope that helped though.
 
If you are using photoshop then you should select the save option to "Save for web". That will reduce the size of the file and allow you to upload it.



There is also a size limit for your overall photo storage. I've hit that limit a few times and have had to reduce the size of some of my pictures and delete others. That may be what you are up against as well.
 
Depending on your operating system ( I assume you have a Microsoft machine) you may be able to right-click on the image and get an option to reduce the size of the pic right then and there. It's part of XP pro at least.

Or if you run Windows, use the MS Paint.



I use it to make the photos smaller and lately use it to make a collage. Save as JPEG.
 
www.xat.com and download their free image optimizer. Very small size program (1MB or so) and very easy to learn. You can crop, resize, compress, etc any picture in just seconds.
 
If you have XP, you can go to MS site and search for "Power Toys". Under the Power Toys, you can download the free "Image Resizer". Once you have downloaded the program, then just Right click on any of your photos and choose "Resize". You will then be given choices as to what size you want, even custom sizes.
