i picked up one of these from target. i got the larger version, the one that is made for the outside of your car. this one is for the dash, but they are made the same

the problem is this: i left it hanging in the garage, because it has a hole on one end, i figured it was for hanging. it got all humid and hot outside. i tried to use it, but it leaves terrible streaks on the car. this is because of the impregnated wax in the fibers. i only got to use this thing once before it had this problem. so, i checked the packaging (which i don't have anymore :wall ) it said i should handwash it in mild soap and let air dry. i did that. however, it still has the oily wax all over it. i washed it with meguiars deep crystal soap. didn't work. then i tried washing it with normal hand soap. still is waxy.

help me out. i really want to get some use out of this thing!

It looks like a California Car Duster. From their website, it says :

"Because of a special permanently baked in paraffin treatment, The Original California Dusters are made to provide years of effective service without the need for cleaning. Simply shake them out before and after each use. The "dirtier" they get the better they work.

If you find it necessary to clean your Duster because it is too dirty or if the Duster stops lifting dust, it can be washed. You may hand wash your Duster in cold water with a mild detergent such as Woolite, then air dry. Do not use hot water to wash or hot air to dry, as heat or harsh detergent may remove the special paraffin treatment."

The CA Duster does "feel" oily, but that's how it picks up the dust, it should however not streak. Not sure how you are dusting the car, but the idea is to let the handle float over the surface. Only the fiber tips should just touch the surface. Hope that helps.

One question. Why would you leave that thing hanging in your garage to collect dust and debris when you are going to run it across your car's paint job? I keep my CCD in the pouch that it came in, and that is even kept inside a cabinet.

The California Car Duster recommends that you leave it fluffed out on newspaper for 24 hours prior to using it to remove excess paraffin.
