hot or cold water?

For removing stains on carpets, what water tempeature is best?
Does it depend on the stain? For example, for blood I heard cold is best, but wouldn't you want hot water when cleaning oil or dirt stains?

For the most part you would want hot water, but I am sure that there are exceptions to the rule.
The hot water will help break the stains hold on the fabric.

None that I can think of maybe with the exception of blood that you mentioned, but I will take your word on that.
