Hoses?

I know this is kind of an odd but maybe simple question, but what are the mobile detailers using in terms of hoses?

Since this is going to be an on the side for fun thing right now, I don't have the mulah for a big tank and a pump (my little pressure washer doesn't have a suction feature that I know of).

I am mainly gearing towards headlight restoration right now as it brings the best rewards

So at this point I plan to just make the customer provide a water source (will use ONR when I can), and use my own hose. I have a nice HEAVY hose that I have no problem using, but just seems like that could become a hassle.

Maybe a nice hose reel? But they can get up there in price as well, or should I just start off free and use my current hose to see how much of a paint it would be?

As always thanks! :autopia:

Unless your running super high pressure (that you don't need) then a standard hose will do the same thing that a high dollar "look at my $200" hose will. Some are more durable than others, but I've never saw the need in a heavy unbendable water hose just for what we do. Granted the really cheap ones are crap and will kink and break within days. Average medium grade is just fine.

Yes, I have a really heavy duty (non kink) one at home. It is great, because I HATE hose kinks, but it sure is heavy :)

I was looking at the coil hoses, but You would have to have something to attach them to or they would retract everytime you let go.

I went through this same problem looking for a good hose that didn't kink or tear if it was drug on the asphalt. I landed on the Goodyear HD Rubber hose from Home Depot. It's black in color (like Goodyear tires der) and it faily thick. It has a good bit of weight to it, but to me that is a small price to pay for knowing I never really have to worry about it getting kinked or town while working.

That may just be the ticket. I will just use the heavy duty one and work on my muscles :) Kill 2 birds with one stone. Thanks guys!

I have a Never Kink hose from Lowes and it's been my favorite. All the other hoses I've used always link and this one doesn't kink at all.

The length of the hose will play a big part in the weight too

I think that is the model I have, and it is VERY long which is why it weighs so much.

Mine is 100 foot (gray with a yellow stripe) and your right it is pretty heavy. I looked at the rubber hoses before i bought this one and I think they are heavier.

I bought a lifetime hose at Ace hardware. The only thing I don't like about these type of hoses is they never seem to "relax" and are heavy.
It seems to have a constant memory of it's packaged condition. It is very hard to get rolled back up even after letting it bake in the sun.

I have a Sears Never Kink (black) and I love it. I think I got it for $15.00 on sale.

If this is the rubber "lifetime" warranty hose, I bought one (paid more than 15 bucks as I got caught in a pinch) based on many (many) highly praising reviews. How can I say, it has been a disappointment...no, it has not failed, and it does appear to be well (very well) constructed, but it is heavy, and it will kink. It will probably be a "lifetime" landscaping hose, but I would certainly not recommend it all that highly for a detailing hose and especially one to take on the road.

I think I have the same one.

:exactly:I have this problem too. I hate dragging it out because I know it's gonna be a pain to roll up again. :wall

I rely on the customer supplying water when I am mobile. I have had a few problems using their hose, though. If their pressure is low and the hose isn't large enough my pressure washer will run dry. The coil ones never carry enough volume. I always have my hose with me unless I have been to the location before and know that the hose and pressure are sufficient.

One thing I do always use is a quick shut-off valve so I can disconnect from the pressure washer and fill buckets or bottles without having to walk to the source each time. Thinking about getting a "Y" fitting to make that even easier.

recently picked up a rapid reel hose reel and a sears rubber hose

very happy with the reel (although it is expensive)

very happy with the hose also. someone above complained about the sears kinking and being heavy. I haven't found it to kink that easily and heavy means durable to me so i'm ok with that.

I mounted the rapid reel to a pair of short 2x4's. I carry that in the truck and take it out to hook up to customer's water when I arrive. This is kinda temporary though until I get a water tank in the back

I bought my hoses at Lowe's. They're 75 feet in length and have a lifetime warranty and resist kinking. I can't remember the price but I know they were more than $20.00 each.

These hoses have machined brass connections compared to those with stamped and formed ends which tend to corrode over time and eventually crack and fall apart.

I would get a hose with a lifetime warranty. I have a no kink one from Ace Hardware and recently got another brand no kink from Lowes.

Some realy good opinions here, as I'm in the market for a new hose in the near future. Mine is old & kinked - don't remember the brand.

I have a black Craftsman hose that I have had for probably 20 years and leave it outside all winter. The good thing about them is they can handle hot water and have a lifetime warranty so if the coupling ever starts leaking you get a new one. But seeing how long mine has lasted I doubt you will ever use the warrany.
