Hose Reel - Anyone have a good mobile/travel reel?

I'm having one heck of a time finding one. They would need to be able to support at least a 50' (maybe 75') heavy duty 5/8" hose. I would need to be able to take it in and out of my vehicle, so nothing to heavy or bulky.

I've found that hose reel to hold standard garden hoses can be bulky and heavy especially if you use a heavy duty hose to start with. When I used my lifetime craftsman hose it was a beast to reel up. Which was why I just coiled it. I still have the hose for my use at the house. In my mobile business I switched 8 years ago to air hose. It is easier to manuever, much lighter and I've found it to be extremely durable. I replace a 60 ft hose every couple of years and spend $10-$13. Other than the hose you just need a few brass adaptors to be able to hook the ends up to standard garden hose fittings. For a year I've used a metal hose reel from Harbor freight without any problems ITEM 40131-3VGA $19.95 with 30 foot of hose that I didn't use but could be an extension. I mount it to my truck bed but you could mount it to a board if you wanted to move it around.

I don't have a mobile one, but, I have tried everyone sold (home type) in Frederick Maryland practically and say without doubt, I have never seen one that was worth a darn really.

The plastic ones last about 1 to 2 years before the sun turns the molecular structure into hard brittle plastic that just starts breaking up.

The old fashioned coiling of the hose is faster, cheaper, neater, better. Also, pay the money for good brass fittings (last forever), plastic is crap !!

Sorry to be so negative, but I have personally been through this mess.

Looks like I'll just be coiling, which isn't a huge deal.

I'm getting the all rubber Craftsman hose with lift time gaurantee. More than likely a 25ft and a 50ft.

I'll be getting all brass quick connects as well.

hey PhaRO

when you use the air hose do you notice a difference in pressure?

also where do you get the adapters from. i tried looking for 1/4'' TO 3/4'' adapter but can not find anything?

thanks

I think I got them at Lowes or Home Depot, I've had the same ones for a long time. I don't have the fitting in front of me but I'm pretty sure it's two fittings to make the transition. I don't remember there being any noticeable changes in pressure or flow. I wouldn't doubt that there was a change but nothing that I remember. Most of the 12 volt pump at the rated output will be about half at 50-60 ft on the air hose.

As of now I'm just coiling. I got the black all rubber 50ft. Craftsman hose.

The 5gallon pail is a great idea, I'll have to check it out. I can tell the rubber hose does have some flex to it, so that's good.
