Hoodlums threw ICE/ ROCKS at my car

"Kids will be kids" <--- load of bull (no offense to anyone else who agree with the quote. this is just how I feel)

I never felt the need to do such damage to other people's property when I was a kid. Little twats that think it's ok to perform such acts of crime deserve no sympathy. They need to be locked up and their parents should have to pay 100X's the damage their damn kids do.

Think about it. For every kid that actually gets caught, I'd say hundreds get away with it scott-free.

I have to say that in my book, you people who are able to restrain yourselves are HEROES. it's the right thing to do at the most difficult time. I don't know what I would have done, but I would know what I would have wanted to do. Slow and painful torture that leave the paralyzed neck down for the rest of their lives is one of the possibilities. i wish we could have Star Trek gadgets where we could teleport these sad excuse for human flesh to Somalia, the showers in a maximum security prison or just the middle of the Sahara desert.

I agree that kids nowadays are getting meaner by the year. It's like a contest where the MEANEST is the best. The SADDEST thing, as some of you said, is that some people have to endure dealing with these human rejects, family and other kids. It's heartbreaking to imagine what kind of torments they do to others.

I think that people are taking my post the wrong way. No where did I say that it was OK or acceptable for kids to damage anyones property. I did not express any sympathy or condone the actions or behavior of these brats.

All I meant by saying "kids will be kids" is that throwing rocks is primarily a JUVENILLE activity that some misguided, bored, or just plain evil children decide to partake in. Kids have been throwing rocks at cars since cars were invented. I definitely disagree with the idea of physically assaulting a child over property damage. These kind of actions do more harm than good in the long run.

What if you are charged and convicted with assaulting a 15 year old kid? How would that affect you in life? What about your job? Even if you beat the case, would it still be worth it when you recieve a lawyers bill for thousands of dollars? Like I said, when I was a young punk, the whole reason for throwing stones like this was for the chase, to separate the driver from the car.

The best thing to do is sneak up on them and grab the slowest kid then call the police. If the kid is scared, the odds are in your favor that he will rat out his friends. In my day, I would of rather taken a beating than go to jail for a few days, get convicted, pay restitution, do x hours of community service, see a probation officer, etc.

Most kids will grow out of this as they become older, while others will become part of the criminal element. I was lucky to choose the former route, while an old friend of mine didn't. About 3 months ago, he was beaten to death in his apartment by two guys I also knew. This was over a small amount of money. I am glad to be away from that way of life.

The community I live in isn't exactly a hotbed of crime.....

I once had a similar situation...I was driving down the road when my truck got pelted with snowballs. I made a mental note of the location and went around the block and turned onto the street where they were hiding. As I approached them, I put the truck into neutral and coasted upto where they were hiding..they were getting eready to fire at their next target when I laid on the horn...I scared the daylights out of them..and they ran faster than greyhounds chasing the rabbit at the track!
Please tell me this was done in a huge emergency vehicle! :D

It was in my POV (privately owned vehicle)... if I was in the fire truck, I would have given them the FedQ and air horn scare of their lives!

Man I hate punk kids like that. Probably 4 years ago I would have got out of the car and lost my mind. Now a days with the way things are I would probably be the one going to jail.

So look at it like this. If you do get out of the car and start wacking them to hell and back is it worth going to jail over?

I say most def not! you did the right thing man. As hard as it must have been to drive off in the end you made the right move. Do yourself a favor and take the West Side Highway next time you can outrun the snow and ice.

Sadly it's the parents fault. The Mom or Dad will just buy me a new one if I screw this one up mentality. I'm originally from NYC and I will not bring my car into the city when I go up for a visit, I stay out on the island and take the train in.

I would have done what you did. It also would have been a good idea to call the police and let them know that kids are throwing things at cars in that location. It might prevent someone else from having to go through it. I've found that the police are generally unresponsive for things like that, but it is worth a shot.

In real life, it is a bad idea to stop the car and try to play Rambo. It sounds good, but that kind of behavior can get you hurt or killed. I can't see how it would have made your situation better, but I can see how it could have been worse. It doesn't play well in court later, while you are trying to explain why you aren't at fault for what happened after you made the choice to stop the car, get out, and escalate the situation.

I have to agree that exercising restraint was the best option here because you don't know what the kids of today might be carrying.
