Honda Wheel Repair

I have 2 questions for everybody.

My first question is concerning when you decide to wash the car and not QD it. Do you wash it only when there is solid dirt on your car or when there is alot of solid dirt. For example my car has some dirt on the sides from the recent rain but none on the hood or trunk because nothing splashed there, should I wait till this weekend and wash it or should I try to QD it qith alot of towels.

My second question is about applying Z5, I am new to the wax scene and when I applied it on my black car I think I applied too much, does anyone have any pictues of how much to apply like after you apply it take a pic before you buff it off. I either feel im applying too little or too much, should I be seeing any white at all or should I just see a light haze on the car, I am REALLY confused and I need help in that area.

Thanks

Bryan

PS. First rain after zaino and it was POURING and the water just dribbled off my windshield and hood, it was the most amazing thing ive ever seen, I didnt even have to use my wipers.

I QD the garage queen because it just gets a little dusty. When it gets anything more than dusty...it gets washed.

As for the Z5, use a foam applicator and apply a nickel size drop. That should do about half the hood or one quarter panel. Thin applications are best. You can moisten the applicator with a spritz of Z6 first and that will help spread it thin.

1- No longer than 3 nice days after last full wash.

2- Never after rain or dense fog.

3- Only when there is light dust. [cali-duster first]

I guess I'm more cautious than most about QDing. I only QD if the car is completely clean, i.e. after a wash or in between polishing coats. I simply don't like the idea of dragging a somewhat wet/damp towel across a dirty finish, even if it's a very very light soiling. This is one way I've avoided swirls and scratches all these years...

I always wash to remove dirt or soiling, with an occasional Cali Dusting if there is very light dust.

I <strong class='bbc'>NEVER[/b] QD if the car has been out of the garage for more that a hour or so, I will do if I get a bird bomb but that is just a last resort..........

Thanks for all the info about QDing, i most DEF will not be washing it now. What about Z5 anyone have any tips on that part?

How much should I put on, what will it look like when applied? a little white or just a haze on the paint.

Thanks

The only time I QD is after the wash. I don't care if the car stayed clean in the garage or not. I used to QD when the car was kept clean in the garage, but after I got a hold of 1000 watt halogen lights and looking at it in day time reveals how much dusts I didn't know existed , I never QD again. I am sure it's probably safe to QD under light dust condition, but I just don't feel comfortable at all.

depends on the color of your car ??? :xyxthumbs

In your case, never! or at least at your discretion :)

If you really wanted to get your car clean and are itching to QD. Then rinse your car off really well. Then drive it quickly to dry.

If the rinsing didn't take off the contaminants on your black car, it would not have been a canidate for QDing, IMO.

If you do QD it, I would advise that you use a lot of QD.

Driving introduces the chance of dirt and debris on a car. Safer would be to dry by hand.

the car was already introduced to debris

rubbing causes swirls more than driving does

if you like rinse and don't drive

I agree with Steve. It depends on the color and possibly the vehicles mission. For example I rarely use QD on my black car and then only for small things like fingerprint removal. However on my white truck that lives outside I QD it quite often especially the hood. Gotta have a clean windshield and hood.

The reason is the results. With the black car the QD job may look ok to the untrained eye but fire up the halogen lights and you will see the uneven shine of a QD job. On white all is well because the paint doesn't show blems the same way as black does.

Are you guys talking primarily about your daily drivers? I can see rarely QDing them between washes if they're driven a lot, but my Vette is a garage queen and I rarely wash it -- here's why. I only drive it about once or twice per month, and usually on very short trips. It never sees rain and I didn't take it out at all during the winter, even on sunny days, for fear of getting salt on it. I also make a point to dust it with my California Duster every two days (at a minimum) when it's been sitting the garage. However, two weeks ago I drove it to a local SCCA event (20 miles round trip) on a beautiful sunny day and simply wiped down the wheels and QD'd the nose and the area behind the wheels when I got home. It certainly didn't require a full wash for the very light amount of road dust that it picked up. Heck, if you can't use QD for stuff like that, what's the point of having it at all?

I only QD after using the Cal. Car Duster. So for me the ? is when is the car too dusty to use the duster vs. washing. I use QD for bugs and bird poop anytime.

I had a guy contact me about restoring a set of Honda Wheels. These wheels were probably the worst ive had to repair. I dont usually like to use Bondo but one wheel required some....

I tried a couple of ways to smooth the finish down i first tried the dremel but that wasnt making much progress

IMG_8023.JPG

Then moved onto sandpaper, nothing was cutting it

IMG_8027.JPG

So i brought out the sandblaster and went to work
