honda or toyota?

I work on hondas, acuras, toyotas, lexus, and mb for family. I would definitely say it depends on engine. There are great honda engines such as the K20A which is a 4 cylinder. Then Toyota makes an awesome 5.7 v8. Both companies make great cars and both companies have produced bad ones.

of the 2 I would pick the honda....however Ford over all of them...then mercury lincoln caddy olds chevy some imports and chrysler at the absolute bottom or not even on the list

Nobody in their right mind would trash talk Honda or Toyota as a whole. Both have put out some terrible stuff, both have done some awesome stuff. Both have killer resale, great mileage, reliability no amount of advertising can touch...

Ford is actually trying and the Fusion wouldn't be something to sniff at but no other american car would even run in the same group.

As has been said though, since about 1998, Toyota hasn't made anything fun. If you want cushy, comfy, relaxed driving get a Toyota. If you want more involved and visceral driving, get the Honda.

Which honda model provides a visceral driving experience? It can't be the insight, accord, civic, crv, clarity, fit and it sure as hell is not the pilot , element or ridgeline..maybe the s2000... a friend of mine has a s2000 and the soft top is a pos, it barely fits right,

Really? My S2000's top fit like a dream. Only moderate wind noise at 100mph. The early models had a fault where one of the metal hoops would rub through the top after a few hundred openings and closings. People who rarely used the top wouldn't notice, but for people who used it nearly daily like me, it was an issue. They bandaged the issue in 2004/2005 and I don't know what the current model has there.

My own take is that Toyota decided some 10 years ago to focus on female buyers. The sports cars went away, there were no significant trucks, and they built nice Camry's and other demure cars. The trucks came back because they were getting slaughtered in that market segment. But they still don't build a decent sports car. Having a "Camry" in NASCAR is an absolute joke. Not that I am a big NASCAR fan, but how lame is that....?

My ex has had two Hondas (CRV and Element) and I've owned an S2000. I'd take any of them over anything Toyota makes. But Honda's corporate mannerisms suit me better. Right now I have a Subaru and a Range Rover. I am going to add a Porsche to the fleet next year I think.

No Toyotas for me, thanks.

Whoa-

The argument is Toyota vs Honda -So while No the civic or Accord is not a "sports car" it is certainly sporty compared to the Corolla

I think many would agree that a Civic is more sporty than a Corolla and the accord more sporty than a Camry.

Plus Honda makes some bad-*** race bikes....

I think in general Honda makes "drivers" cars and Toyota is a little more...vanilla-

By the way,

When I worked at the BMW dealership, the saying was:

Toyota (Lexus) will get you there reliably, but you'll fall asleep on the way.

When you compare product to product (Camry to Accord, Corolla to Civic etc.) the Honda version is much more involved a drive than the Toyota.

the toyota ft-86 concept (i'm likin' it so far) is not too far from production and from the looks of it, it's pretty nice. IIRC, it's going to be around $20K, but i'm sure it's going to be a bit more.

I've driven Hondas since I was a teenager. I recently drove a friends 2004 4Runner for a few days - it was pretty nice, but the interior's build quality was questionable vs. the Hondas I've driven. Either brand is fine, but I'd probably go with a Lexus over a Toyota.

agreed, my dad has a 2007 camry and the interior design is a dissapointment  . i wish he would of went with the accord instead...

I have a 2009 Honda Civic EX, and the interior build quality is disappointing, even for an economy car. Rattles, squeaks and vibrations galore. Mainly has to do with the plastic-y interior, where panels make so much noise, even on relatively nice roads.

I still love it though.

got to hand it to hyundai (i know this is a honda or toyota thread), they have definitely stepped up to the plate and are giving the competition some heat (especially with the genesis sedan & coupe)...

2011 hyundai sonata (this might give the camry and accord a run for their money and not to mention the warranty hyundai has as well)

i feel like im just repeating what othera have said.. but here goes. i own a 2003 honda civic ex sedan, and its 5 speed. its got the typical honda bottom end, with no power at all until about 300-3500 rpm, but if you let it rev like it wants to, you'll keep up with a lot of cars you wouldnt expect.. although is is in no way a sports car. sohc vtec is not as impressive as dohc vtec, as its more for gas mileage, which it deffinatley delivers on. the lowest gas mileage ive ever gotten was about 28, and the highest ive gotten was 42!, i average mid to upper 30's, and im a 19 year old automotive major, ha. the fit and finnish and interior materials are very blehh. there are some gaps that remind me of older chevys in my interior. i have yet to drive a car that shifted as nicley as mine, reguardless of brand, and my car has about 112,000 miles on it.

Toyota makes much nicer interiors. though boring, on the inside and out. my girlfriends family has a 2005 matrix (girlfriend's) a 2005 tacoma (her dad's) and a 2004 4 runner (her mom's). ive detailed each one of them, and the interiors have a much better quality feel, look, and use better, more expensive feeling materials..toyotas are "vanilla" like someone said before, and are not as exciting to drive.. they're powerband is generally significantly lower than most hondas (especially smaller motors)toyotas are good on gas, just like hondas, and i think hold resale a bit better too.

my mom has a subaru, and it has almost 130,000 miles on it.. sounds great, runs great, feels sportier than my car and its a wagon. subarus (generally!) dont get the gas mileage that honda and toyota do( my mom averages low to mid 20's,) but the handling is awesome, and the power in most is better than comparable hondas or toyotas.. especially in small-midsized cars. one downside of subaru for me anyway, is that the boxer motors can be a royal PITA to work on, but im sure there are motors from every company that are just as hard to work on.. but having worked on a bunch of honda, toyota and subaru. subarus are deffinatley the least pleasant IMO

im going to stop before i get to nissan, ill write an essay. ha.. this thread is deffinaley good reading. keep it going!

can't say i agree, it depends on the model. my pops 07' camry's interior is one of the most cheap, and dull looking interior's i've ever seen...

Yep. Gotta go case by case. That Hyundai is a mess though! They really need to stop ripping ALL of their styling from the other manufacturers. That tends to make cars age rather fast.

toyota and honda both make some good and bad interiors. just in my opinion ive been more impressed with mre toyota interiors, compared to honda interiors.. my civic EX's interior isnt cheapy, but its far cheaper feeling and looking than my girlfriends base model toyota matrix for example.

aside from that, i think one main thing that really helps hyundai is their warranty. they were probably one of the few automakers that actually made money in these tough times...

Honda = dependability, sportier feel, and more daring in design

Toyota =dependability, focus on ride comfort, styling tends to be bland (IMO). The only negative I have seen lately is that you can see some cost cutting int he interior materials. Both brands have high resale values. Also consider:

Subaru= dependability, great boxer engines, awd

Mazda = probably the most sporty feel of all Japanes makes, reliability

Mitsubishi= always been reliable for me(current car has 170k trouble free miles)
