Home Depot grout sponge questions

Don't know if these are the "right" ones but that's what I'm using. I do squeeze some water out; the sponge is somewhere between dripping wet and well wrung out, UNLESS the car is really dirty -- then I will spray the area with ONR QD first, and use a sponge that is dripping wet. In this case there is very little left of a 4 gallon batch of ONR wash when I'm done with the car.

Spoiledman - I didn't see those at my HD but I could have missed them. I'll check again next time I'm there but the single packaged sponges I bought seem pretty nice.
 
Received some ONR from a generous member on Autopia, and I'm thinking about using my grout sponge for the ONR. Do you guys find that using a grout sponge wastes the ONR solution? The sponge holds LOTS of solution, but the washing part is only done by the surface of the sponge. So, everytime you rinse, won't all the solution in the grout sponge be wasted in the rinse bucket? I'm just throwing thoughts out there :)
 
Now just how did I miss that post? ;) Squeeze more out of the sponge. I'll try and take pictures next week. I have a bi-weekly Honda van next week that gets ONR'd and it has pretty much no marring. It's a few months old now so either the combo I'm using is working really well or Honda is using some new paint.:O
 
Thanks, spoiledman, I'd definitely appreciate the pictures. I'll probably start out with a chenille mitt with ONR tomorrow. When I see your pictures, processes and such, I'll try out the grout sponge. Thanks :)
 
Yea Im interested in the grout sponge as well. I use only QEW/ONR on my truck and customers cars and I recently ditched the sheepskins altogether. Whenever I went over really dirty panels, I could not get the dirt out of the mitt no matter how hard I tried.



I switched to the zwipes microfiber pads at walmart, though they do the job, Im not sure if they are causing micro marring or not. there are no reviews on this pad here either so the grout sponge seems like an awesome alternative!

I'm gonna have to try out the the $2 grout sponge that Spoiledman recommends.



Some months back I purchased a few sea sponges from a member on here (some other members who purchased these can chime in too). They sat in my garage for the longest time because #1 they looked small and #2 I didn't think they would be soft enough.



So a little over a month ago I decided to give these sponges a try. After using it the first time, I realized they were MUCH softer than I anticipated and the size was perfect for my hand. It is very porous and releases particles very well. They don't look or feel like they'd last, but I have to say they're holding up a LOT better than I had expected too. Every wash, I see little tiny bits and pieces get ripped off, but they rinse away easily (unlike lambswool where I have to go back and get it between panels). If I were to see pics of the sponges when I first used them, and pics of them now it would be hard to tell the difference, that's how well they've held up.



But, eventually I know they won't hold up anymore and I can't afford the prices that most of the car care sites are charging for these sea sponges, so I'm really thinking about trying out the grout sponge as a replacement.



The only thing I really don't like about the sea sponges is that it's so soft against paint that when using with an ONR wash, some of the bird bombs don't want to come off.
 
Wet those bombs with a pass of the sponge and come back to them after a few moments. That will remove most of it and another pass a few moments later will take care of the rest of it unless it's REALLY tough.
 
I recently bought the Grout sponges from Home Depot that come individually wrapped, they were about $2, however using ONR yielded great results, except my sponges are a bit dirty when I tried to use it on some BMW brake dust. Is this common for lots of road grime?



Has anyone noticed a big difference in buying Grout sponges locally? ONR works amazing.
 
Yes, it will dirty them up pretty bad. Easy fix is to run them under warm water and add some dish washing liquid. Massage well and rinse thoroughly. It will be like new once again.

Pics as promised. I have to say that either Honda is using harder clear or this process is truly sound. This van is 3-4 months old and doesn't have a swirl on it. It's not been polished unless it was done at the dealer and I think that would be obvious.;) It sits outside 24/7 under a tree most of the time as well.

My Home Depot does not carry those loose Grout Sponges only the wrapped ones which are different that the loose one in the pic Spoiled man had.

Also tried looking on there website did not list it either there is the Hydro-sponge.
