I was at Lowes and was ready to buy their 4ft cold start up T8 fluorescent light fixture for $14.97 (-20 degree startup) but thought I'd check out Home Dopot's fixutre. They have a T8 shoplight fixture for $7.95 ... Description below

My question is has anyone purchased these before and because my garage isn't heated will they start-up in the cold. They say instant on Electronic ballast.
 
they will start up but it will take a while for them to come up to full brilliance. If youre garage isnt heated, your best best is the cold start ones from lowes.
 
I have 4' T8s, but I can't help with the temperature issue...

I've got a couple of those HD ballasts in my garage. They flicker like crazy for about an hour before they finally start all the way up. I'm replacing them all with the Lowe's ones (only 4 of them to replace) this spring (since I can't stand the cold that's out there right now) and maybe even add in a couple halogens on a secondary switch to assist in swirl finding.
 
Thanks to everyone for their comments. Since my garage gets really cold in the winter my best bet will be to get the Lowes cold weather fixture.
 
I have two of them, I believe they are made by commerical electric, I had a problem with one of them were one blub would turn off. Homedpot swpaed it out for me and since then they work great. I have a attached garage that doesnt get below 40 and never had a problem with start up. I belive it comes with a plug to go into the wall socket, by one and try it out. Cant go wrong for 8 bucks.
 
I would buy one and try it out since it's still Winter.



I have "cold weather" ones and they are dim for a couple minutes on cold days as well.
 
I have four of those $8 Home Depot fixtures in my garage. I haven't had any problems yet. It does drop below freezing out there and they always start right up.
 
I have four of these light in my two bay garage and they work great and man can I see the light now.



I bought the ten pack of buld for it for $20.. I dropped below zero and flick switch and you have light. No problems and for 7.45 each not bad
