Poor little guy. I've heard of squirrels and birds getting caught in spokes and doing some major damage and causing some serious injuries. You were lucky he didn't try to "jump through the hoop" and get caught in your wheel. I've had a few close calls with animals on my bike, but luckily have yet to make contact. Deer, squirrels, birds, even a snake or two.
