Hiring competent workers!

Hello!

I am looking to hire someone new to do most of the work in my Glass / Detailing business.

I just got a resume from someone that claims to have detailing experience, and I`m probably going to bring him in for an interview.

What questions would you ask a prospect employee?

Thanks for any ideas!
Tyler

Experience, not how many years but what have you done?

In my years of doing this I`ve found plenty of young talent as well as old guys stuck in their ways refusing to accept better ways. It`s not how much time you`ve worked it`s how you make your time work for you.

Have him show you competence. You don`t hire the resume`.

I like the competency exam idea.

Set up a table with products generically labeled (APC etc.)
Here is the scenario/problem...How/what would you use?
Carpet stain (identify) Organic, Tannin, Grease or oil?
What products, techniques or process to remove the stain.
Is he going to use a machine to polish paint?
What machine, pad, compound or polish to accomplish task?

REFERENCES - CLIENTS -

That is where I would start...
I would call ALL of them and get their feedback...

What does HIS vehicle look like ?? Is it perfect ?? Inside, outside, trunk, engine compartment...

Look for someone that is willing to learn and willing to learn how to do things your way. Some guys are resistant to change. I would rather have someone who is a little green, but eager to learn.

If they had a good work ethic (which has to be seen) I`d hire that guy....

Questions & answers don`t always tell the real story. Most low rate "Detailers" will bull```` you about their experience. If they meet your minimum requirements lay down the law and give them a trial spin for 30 days with no commitment. Good luck finding the perfect worker.
