HIDs...can I see some pics?

I'm considering upgrading to a HID kit in the springtime. I want a bright white look, with no more than a slight blue tint to the light. What temperature rating am I looking for here -- 5000K? 6000K?



I'd really appreciate it if I could see some pictures of HID kits that you guys have, whether OEM or aftermarket. Please list your temperature rating too.



Can anyone recommend a good place to buy HIDs?

How hard is it to install HIDs?

Another question:



Do HIDs not have high beams? Some kits I've seen online have distinguished between low beam kits and low beam / high beam kits?

I can answer this. Some HIDs have high beams and some don't (they use regular halogens for high beam), normally if it's listed as bi-xenon it'll be the high beams too (although in many cases there is only one hid, there is just an aperture that opens more fully when you have your high beams on) - but that counts as bi-xenon since both the regular and high beam are high intensity. Some actually have two hids per assembly.



Oh, as for what temperature does what:

5-6k is pretty standard if you want it to be almost totally white with just a slight blue tint. As you get up into 8k it gets more more blue, 10k being almost purple-ish. You normally get the most light at between 5-6k.
 
Buy mine...6k HID kit for $125 OBO on aBay. No high beams, but trust me you don't need them. It's like stadium lighting :cooleek:
 
go to hidplanet.com.....they have a vast majority of info its like a library....also dont buy a kit or bulb if you want the best you need to do a retro fit that the best route and you wont regret it but the price can be hefty unless your willing to try yourself....by the way oem is around 4100k now remember bulb will colorshift(that mean with time the color will change with usuage)...also some cars have a blue like look but its do to the ousing specfic for HID and sharp cutoff....good luck and should you need help reg and ask for them on hidplanet also i can give you some points if need...good luck
 
If i wanted hid for my 2001 mustang what type of lights do i need. Also im looking for anyone selling their HID that fit my mustang lights

The HIDs from your RSX will fit mine? Yours are 9003, while my Protege takes a 9005.



I'll be reading a lot on HIDplanet tonight, but am I wrong in thinking that I need a new headlight assembly? I always thought it was a completely different assembly. Do you just replace the bulbs and wiring, and re-use the OEM headlight assembly?
 
You should really go to HIDplanet.com and check out the forums. There is a lot of good information that is application specific.

Be aware that HID is more than a bulb. It is a bulb, and a ballast to power the bulb. When looking at retro kits you need to be aware of the distance between the bulb and the reflector in the lens. There used to be a place called Mr Jungs that custom molded the HID bulb into and H4 socket so it was the proper distance from the reflector. Cheap kits don't go to those lengths to ensure quality.

I've done many retro installs on motorcycles and they are a vast improvement when you get the right kit. I currently have OEM HIDs in my GS300. One thing I have noticed is that the cuttoff point is very sharp causing that little "jitter" look when you hit a bump.

HIDs are kind of hit or miss sometimes. Ive been on bikes where it was a significant improvement, and I've been in cars where it didn't make any difference. Its up to you on how you spend your $$ though. :D

ok i give you an example i like the lexus sc hartop headlight w/HID i need to take the whole house(left and right) plus the ballast and bulb that and then you need to buy or make a wire harnesst(if you can) and install it....this will give you the best output....but you do need to cut up the headlight and install them thats why you can have someone else do it for you at a price or do them yourself....know i will say this some cars for example if you have a car that has the option for hid you can by the housing or sometimes some cars refletors will be ok...by the way what type of car do you have year ,make,model....

I never put them in my RSX because they don't fit :furious: .

They are size 9003 I could have sworn the Protege was 9003 too because someone on another forum PMed me specifically asking if they fit a protege, and according to Sylvania.com it uses 9003.



Anyway, as far as your options you have two routes. You can buy a simple plug n play kit or you can "retrofit" an OEM system into your headlights. The kit is a lot cheaper, although the retrofit will yield better results.
 
If you try and put one of those plug and play hid kits in a car that it isnt intended for it will glare all over the road and be hazardous to other drivers, please if you are going to do it right fabricate some projectors into the stock headlight housing. I had hid's in my integra and it was just one of the plug and play kits, sure it looks good from inside the car, but the light isnt as consentrated as it would be with a projector. Also it is major hell on oncoming traffic if you have these plug and play kits.



Also if your headlight housing has a lot of chrome inside it, i can guarentee that it the headlights will look like crap and the light will be scattered all over the place.



Dont get me wrong the actually lighting is amazing compared to stock headlight bulbs, be be carefull cause you could get pulled over for putting a plug and play hid kit.

YEAH! I've done four setups like that on BMW K1200LTs in my area. I used to ride on until last year when I got t-boned by an idiot in an F250. Got a Miata after that fiasco!



That K Bike still looks great!
