....to complement my detailing I do.

How many cars can a 2 man team realistically wash in a given 8 hour day?

Process:

ONR

glass inside and out

clean wheels and tires

dress tires

wipe dash with wet towel (dusting) or protectant (upcharge for protectant)

vacuum

So how many cars do you think is possible to get done in a 8 hour shift if all the cars were withing a 5 miles radius in office parks and all grouped together, not at residential houses where there is only one car to wash.

offering a wash, and a wash and wax, but NO detailing. i would come out and take care of the detailing needs.

Would you vacuum too or no? I would say a car every 45 min, give or take...travel time and if you include vacuuming as well...its tough, i wanna say 30 min for what you have listed above, but I dont see ti happening unless you both work well together and know exactly what to do!

Could be a good idea if you wanted to hit up huge businesses...which it looks like you are going to do...

wash wax and vac are a 30-45 minute job for one guy to do. you team that up and cut the time by about a 1/3 or so. having the right tools will obviously make it a faster process. The 2 bucket method while effective is extreamly slow compared to a powerwasher. Same with hand waxing vs. D/A application of the wax. If your just starting out expect a good hour until you get past your learning curve and figure out what works, what dosen't, and what can be done faster.

We tried this near the end of last year. I can do a vehicle in an hour or so, depending on the size of the vehicle and how filthy it is. We were using QEW on the exterior, which is kind of slow, but being near the end of the year and with it being somewhat humid and cooling down, it was slower because we were having issues getting the exterior to dry without streaking.

I hope it works out well for you. We are just about to embark on a new campaign ourselves to try this starting at the beginning of the year, rather than the end.

Our biggest problem was trying to convince people that the convenience of the service and quality of the work was worth paying more than the cheap-o car wash up the street. There were more cars at first, as the people that obviously hadn't had their annual car wash were eager to get theirs done. However, after we took care of it, there weren't many regular customers. People liked the service, just don't care very well for their vehicles. I guess we could do some of their vehicles again the end of this year to keep them on schedule.

I had a package like the one you listed when I first started last fall. I would spend the day at an office complex and knock out 6-8 vehicles a day. I quickly realized that I was attracting the wrong customer base. Most of the customers I got were not who I'd typically go after. I even had one vehicle towards the end of the season that I had to turn down because their vehicle was in such bad condition (paint chips all over, carpets torn up, etc.). Needless to say, I stopped offering that particular service to random folks. I offer the same kind of package but it has a prerequisite of a higher service initially.

Just something to think about...

well i can personally get through a sedan with ONR and apply megs 21 via PC in 30-40 minutes or so...and substituting OCW for the wax, it will cut time even more while still leaving a nice shine and protection for a month. so I was thinking that it would be a 2 per hour deal or possibly 3, but wanted to find out from some other people who were doing the same process

I want to stay away from the whole pressure washer and water everywhere situation, and I dont want to get a truck with a trailer and reclaim system, ETC. In order to keep prices lower, costs have to be lower...and for washing, ONR is pretty cheap, yet still quite effective. 15-20 gallons to wash a car is absurd anymore when 3 gallons does the same if not better (not for muddy cars though)

anyone else have experience with ONR car washing on a more volume level?

well I was thinking about operating two different business names....one for the car washing, and one for the detailing.

I understand about the differentiating customer base, but two businesses catering to the needs of both clientele ike it would work out pretty well...

My thinking is that I dont want to get busy with detailing the cars myself, spending 6+ hours on a given car, and not having time to get other peoples cars washed...Seems like there is more car washing going on at the office complexes, and more detailing going on at homes for me, although I dont offer car washing at this point because I want to keep my days open for detailing, as well as my restaurant job.

I was thinking I would be able to setup at one office complex by 8am, then leave by 12, then setup at another place by 1230 and leave by 430, having washed about 14+ cars hopefully....do this at 5 different locations M-F with Business A, essentially hitting about 10 complexes in the area

Then do the detailing on site on an appointment basis with Envious Detailing, with referrals by Business B from all the cars that get washed receiving a Envious Detailing business card.

If anyone has any input on this, please feel free to PM me and share your ideas...

Eric

So another question I would have is should I come up with another name close to Envious Detailing, or a name that isnt so close? I was thinking about _________ mobile car wash....thoughts?

How do you like the Optimum Car Wax? maybe its just the detail side of me, but I find it hard to say I waxed your car when it came out of a spray bottle...?

I personally would like to see you market both services under one name. From your posts and kind of knowing you by the advice you post, I see you do good top quality work. If you are producing good quality you should bring the good name you have created to this new venture. Customers will get confused if there are 2 names and you would be essentially starting from scratch with this new name. You could use references from your existing business to start this new one.

I woul keep one name and clearly break out your service options on a flyier, web site or business card. I will also simplfy banking, insurance, uniforms and payroll as you grow.

pretty good thread bump...little over a year...lol

OCW v1 was awesome, I havent gotten around to using v2 yet, so I cant comment on it. I know that scott and a few others like the stuff. Scott mentioned that it its as wet looking, but lasts a little longer (i believe thats what he says)

nothing amounted from car washing, BTW. I kinda want to stay away from washing cars and having my days tied up, but with this economy, I might have to as business has been slow (mainly due to rain I am hoping as next week is already full - no rain). We will see what happens in the next 6 months...
