Hi, I'm Bobpak, a new member just introducing myself.
Recently moved back to the Pittsburgh area from many years in Virginia.
Planning to trade an old Merc for a Subaru Outback - sometimes there's snow up here and the Merc is rear drive and has proven to be horrible in the snow.

The Mercedes has beautiful rock-hard clear coat and supposedly Subarus have a pretty soft coating so I'll be interested to learn how to deal with it.

Nice to be here - seems like an informative site.

Welcome to the forum ! You will find a vast amount of knowledge and know how from the great members that frequent here.

You mentioned a Subaru Outback in your post. I just detailed an 03 Outback last week. I would clasify the paint on it as medium hardness. It looked awesome after using some HD Adapt on a Buff and Shine Microfiber Cutting Pad with my Flex 3401. It did not even need an additional polishing step. We will be looking forward to hearing about your success on your future projects.

Welcome to this incredible forum.

You will be blown away by the amount of information these highly experienced professionals will share so freely with you.

Do not be afraid to ask a question regardless of how simple or stupid you think it is. I was there. I was never flamed...just the opposite.

I was always given ideas, opinions, recommendations and guidance.

You are in detailing nirvana.

Best regards,
Tom

Welcome to Autopia Forums!

I've only detailed two Subaru's (WRX and Forester) and both had medium paint, but we'll be happy to help you keep it in pristine shape.

Bobpak -

Welcome to the Forum !

This has always been a great place - primarily because of the quality of good hearted people who run it, and those that post here, as we hope you will be doing soon..

I hope your move to PA went well and it is all getting organized again..

I have Detailed many, many, German cars - possibly the most Detailed vehicle in my Shop..

And you are correct, they had pretty hard paint and then went to really hard paint when they invented "ceramic-clear" long ago - I think at least 10 years ago...

Luckily, Menzerna, another old name from Germany worked with Mercedes and developed some incredible compounds to use to get the defects out of the harder paint that was developed to help cut down on scratches, etc., that the paint used to get - especially Black...

Your Subaru will be so nice to Detail and the paint is very user friendly and can finish anywhere you want it to be... Lovely paint to work with, very predictable, and for the Subie's I have done and seen, it seems to be very durable as well..

Good luck here !
Dan F
