Hi guys, I heard this is the place for newbies! Wanna help me out?

03COBRA

I miss my 03 Cobra......
Well I am new to the deatiling world, I had a Civic that I never waxed or anything but washing in the 2 years I had it, I recently purchased a Sonic Blue Cobra and now I have been bit by the detailing bug! Anyways, I have been trying to read everything I can on how to do a great paint detail, so please help me out with a couple of question!:D I currently use ClearKote products, the Vanilla hand glaze, and the Carnauba Moose Wax to top it! Well I recently picked up a Porter Cable, I purchased the Sonus pads from this site, and I'm trying to learn the right way to do this! I guess I need to polish the paint first, what polish should I use on Blue, can I use the Vanilla hand glaze as the polish, if not what product should I use? Then what step after that, then the Vanilla hand glaze? Then the Carnauba Moose Wax? I really like the ClearKote products, I think the shine is amazing, I do most things by hand, but I have been told that buffer gives results that hand cannot produce! Thanks Guys!!

Yes Vanilla Moose can be used as a polish, it has cleaners in it you can use it if the paint is already in good condition. For something a bit more aggressive I would recommend Einzett Paint polish. Or the Poorboys SSR line, or even Menzerna IP and FP for something more simple.

And yes you would go from polish to VM, then CM. You will get hazing from IP and some of the stronger polishes, just finish up with a more mild polish.

Good luck!

Hey Cobra--

Great car you got there, look at my avatar, just sold her ('96 Snake). Anyway, that Sonic Blue color is so great, that I think any of the polishes referenced above will work fine. Its determining how aggressive of a polish you need that is the key. Remember, least aggressive method possible. Try your mildest polish with a polishing pad first, then step up from there if need be.

And yes, the PC will produce results that your hand simply cannot, or will not--the PC does not get tired and start cheating by the end of the car!! Just remember to really work in your products and hit each panel twice if the conditions warrant. There is little heat build-up with this machine so it takes time to make the polish work.

You've been bit, and there's no turning back, now watch your garage pile up with endless detailing supplies...

Welcome!! :xyxthumbs

Welcome! Wash your car thoroughly, clay it, use Vanilla Moose with a polishing pad, and apply Carnauba Moose Wax by hand.

Your going to need good supplies to go with your detailing adventure. I recommend www.pakshak.com for towels (very nice Autopian discount).

Thanks for the compliemts!! You could not be more right about being bit, and watching the products pile up, I have 12 MF towels sitting on the washing machine, I think I should wash them instead of buying new ones all the time! What do you guys think about the Sonus pad system that is sold on this website? Thanks Guys/Gals

The Sonus pads are pretty new, so not too many people have gotten the chance to use them. I should be getting mine next week. I wouldn't hesitate to order them if they look like what you are wanting.
