Hi, did my first detail

how are you guys doing. I recently did a long overdue detail for my honda fit. Well heres the progress!

So my detailing kit just arrived. Got a G110v2 meguiars DA with 3 w8207 polishing pads. I have a lot of swirl marks on my honda fit and i wanted to get rid of them using this set up by meguiars. Heres a detailed list of what I plan on using and what is going to be done to my car and I must say everything is going very well! Check out my process.

1) Wash- use of meguiars gold class shampoo and foamaster gun.
2) Claybar- mothers or blue magic (to remove contaminants etched in the paint)
3) Polish- meguiars ultimate compound, ultimate polish, or scratch x (using Meguiars G110v2 Dual Action polisher).
4) Wax- nxt tech wax 2.0 (apply by hand)
Clean and gloss wheels tires.
Clean interior and vacuum

Use the Meguiars g110v2 with W8207 pad

After using Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish

Yea I like the meguiars set up a lot. Looking to try other pads such as the surbuf and lake country pads. Quick question, if anybody knows would either the surbuf and the lake country pads fit with the meguiars backing plate? Im not sure if they use the velcro type or not like the w8207 2.0 softbuffs

First of all great job!!!! How many hours did you end up putting into it?!

Surbuff and Lake Country pads both use a hook n' loop attachment that is the same as the G110's. The difference is the G110 V2 uses a W68DA backing plate which is slightly larger than the traditional backing plates used on a 6 and 6 1/2 inch pads, because of the rubber lip. It isn't a huge deal, and it works great for the soft buff pads, but I generally you want all of the backing plate to engage the pad for stability.

So yes you can use the Meguiar's backing plate but you will likely get better results by switching to something like the Lake Country 6 inch backing plate (if you plan on using 6 1/2 inch Lake Country and Surbuff pads).

Alternatively, if you are going to buy a new backing plate and some other brands of pads, you may consider moving down to 5 1/2 inch pads and a 5 inch backing plate. This will free up some power, particularly when using foam or microfiber pads.

Great advice that will make your life a whole lot easier and your machine wont work so hard .

Thanks for the help and advice guys! Will a backing plate lets say the 5 in from lake country fit with the g110v2? Im coming to a conclusion that they are all universal ? I just picked up a 3" backing plate and 4" soft pads by meguiars. More pics coming soon!

As long as thread size is correct backing plates will swap with out problem. The Porter Cable 7242XP, Griot's Garage Polisher, and Meguiar's G110v2 all use the same universal thread size/pitch so backing plate swapping is not an issue. :rockon

You totally changed the paintwork for the better !
Sounds like you have great machine and products, and advice from those above..
Keep on doing what you are doing, everytime you use your Meguiars G110V2 you will get better and feel more comfortable with it. Its the perfect small footprint machine that can get into a lot of tight places easier than the big ones.

You can get all sizes backing plates from Lake Country and Meguiars, for this machine, and has already been said, random orbital backing plates from all manufacturers will fit any random orbital EXCEPT the Flex machine which has to have its own, geared, backing plate.

Maybe for winter you can consider some of the Collenite products? They are super durable, made in New York, where they have really bad winters already, so you know they can handle bad weather. Just a thought...

I want to thank everyone for all their advices and support! It means a lot to me because there isnt a better forum with lively and encouraging people like you guys!

I picked up some burgundy pads from meguiars (7207) and I have not seen a single review about them. Are they bad to use? I recently did it on my hood and fender the only problem I had was it giving off a lot of dust. It still worked great followed by a polish because it marred a lot. But I think it got dusty because it was just Hot that day. Anybody else try them and have any opinions?
