Hey all,

I've been reading the forums for quite some time now and have taken all your advises. I've come up with my detailing step and would like some feedback to see if i am doing it right or overkilling the steps. (Dark Blue color)

Here's what I came up with -

1st Wash

2nd Surface Prep - PB SSR1

3rd Polish - Klasse AIO

4th Glaze - Klasse Sealant Glaze

5th Sealant - PB EXP

6th Wax - PB Nattys Blue

Seems like a lot of steps to me. The car is looking really shiny and wet. thanks to you all here - I have my ritual all set - just wanted your opinions. Thanks.

Ill let the others talk about the products but I know your need to CLAY after you wash!! Its a must

I would clay the car after the wash. Then after the clay, some like to wash again, I use a waterless wash myself. Also, after the SG, you'll want to give it atleast 12 hours to cure before topping it. I dont know how well EXP would bond to it either. I'd probably skip EXP and top with Natty's Blue.

A little KSG advice. APPLY IT THIN!!!! I mean really thin. I have been using it for a short time now, and have not experienced any difficulty because I read all the thin application posts and I applied it thin as I possibly could.

Thanks for your response. Ill look into the clay and possibly try it this weekend! Ill research more and narrow it down to the best clay brand to use.

I thought I got this down but you're right adding the PB EXP may not bond well. Thanks from Seattle!

Broom- Welcome to Autopia!

Seems to me that your proposed approach is too heavily biased towards LSPs and too light on the prep.

Yeah, you oughta clay it. And I'd be (pleasantly ;) ) surprised if the SSR1 alone got the paint truly perfect.

As noted, choose between the Klasse and the EXP. I'd even question whether you need to top the sealant with wax. These days I just decide whether I'm using a wax *or* a sealant and go one way or the other.

Note that dark blue can be as difficult as black to get/keep perfect, and a basically perfect finish is what you need if you're gonna go with a sealant.

Any clay is way, way, way better than no clay. If you decide on a brand that you have to order don’t skip claying just because it doesn’t get there by the weekend. Get something otc to use until your order arrives.

PC.

Thanks guys....this whole thing is getting me obssessive! All your inputs are great and im happy to have found such informative members! Im truly learning a lot and could only laugh at how I used to clean my cars! Ghetto washing I call it.

Anyways, I have one of those Voodoo Blue toyota FJ Cruisers - so I am excited to try all these things out. I bought the clay and lubricant so I will experiment when it gets here. Im still new to this so everything is done by hand. By the time Im done cleaning the truck- Im exhausted as if I worked out! Maybe Ill invest on a polisher(if thats what its called) - but Im still an amateur.

Im only weary of the 3M film that I have. From my research here,

I know not to use clay on it.

Put a painters green masking tape around the edges.

And wash, prep, polish, glaze, seal, and wax as normal. Hopefully I dont scratch the surface.

I am thinking that my products are non abrasive. Thanks again!

in general this is how it goes...

wash

clay

compound

polish

glaze

wax

now there are multiple compound steps, polish steps that can be done to achieve the level of perfection you are looking for...glazing - i usually do two on show cars, one on a DD....then waxing is up to you on how many

I can't help with the 3M film, but it'd be smart to know what's OK/not for it before you start.

Give a little thought to how you'll avoid having product build-up along the edge of the film (even if you mask it with tape when claying/polishing I assume you plan to seal/wax it). I find that moving *along*, rather than *against* the edge of materials like that can keep the buildup minimal.

The polish (SSR1) is not nonabrasive, but it's very mild. The Klasse AIO is *very* mildly abrasive, so mild as to be functionally nonabrasive on many (but not all) surfaces.

I like the way the FJs look in that color :xyxthumbs
