Here is something I've been meaning to ask...

How often do you go between washing/polishing/waxing your own car?
Or more specifically, how often CAN you wash/wax/polish without feeling guilty about it (of course, the guilt being brought on by your spouse)?

Typically, I wash once a week and wax once a month. I also polish maybe 2-3 times a year. Of course, this is if time permits. Sometimes I get very busy all the time and can't manage to stick to this schedule.

If you happened to marry a wife like this there is only one thing to do. Find a car that you absolutely love buy it for your wife and then everytime you go to clean it tell her that you are taking care of her car.

GearHead has a good idea. Just clean your car and hers at the same time so it looks like your spending some time on her (indirectly) and not all on yourself. Or you could get your wife involved and help you detail. I think there are a couple of husband and wife couples that detail together on this board if I remember right.

Not being married for the win!

Well, I washed my car, THEN washed the GF's car, a 2002 Echo...
She bought herself a fashion mag, and sat on the porch while I washed :)
Everyone is happy...until I break out the PC and do a 6 hour polishing session ONTOP of the wash/dry ritual...
;)

I wash my car once a week & my truck every 2 weeks (since it rarely sees the road). I'll wax my truck every 6 months & will polish & wax the car every 2 months.

Well, if my first suggestion didn't work then maybe you could by her a session at the local spa. You know the works one of those sessions that takes just about 6 hours. :D

<Evil grin>
But that cuts into the modification/product funds! Which is another thread altogether ;)

Sounds like your just going to have to find some way to give her a lot of extra attention later on that night and make her feel special. ;)

Just remember though, you'll never be able to make a women happy 100% of the time. Even if you could, they won't let you know you are. Sometimes you just can't win with women.

Looking at portions of these two posts makes your problem a real no-brainer.
Once you have a spouse, washing your girl friend's car is definitely going to cause you some problems. Especially if your activities with your girl friend should in any way infringe upon your activities with your spouse.:D

On a serious note, most women would be happy that you are spending the time with the car rather than playing cards and having a few drinks with the guys.
I wash cars from 1 to 3 times a week including the wife's car. I also follow Gearhead's advice and buy her cars that I like so keeping hers clean is also to my benefit.

i wash my car every minute i have. most weeks its only about 2 times however it can dip to 1 or even up to 7 (yes folks i have washed my car everyday before) I only polish when i clay as thats the only time i need to. Also i wax atleast once a week if i can, again time permiting. Just rember to wait about 24 hours between coats for cure time. And dont worry about the spouse, take her out in the shiniest car on the block :D

I generally wash every 3-4 days, or after it rains.

These days, my polishing time has dwindled down to next to nothing for a few reasons.

After trying just about every polish sold on-line or OTC, I'm set on what works best for me. Unfortunately, what works best for me was found a few thousand $'s ago, with the exception of a few Zaino products which I've been using since December.

I used to strip down one combo to try another. Sometimes I'd do this weekly. I was on a mission to find the 'best of the best' (for me).

I enjoy trying new detailing products, and it can be addicting. I think it's especially tempting when you're new to the boards. A TON of information is thrown at you and you can't sort out fact from fiction on day one. At this point, I'm set on the products that I like best on my rides. That doesn't mean that I won't try new products again. It just means that -for the most part- I won't be part of the group that 'has to have it' as soon as it's launched. I had to throw a disclaimer in there :)

Since switching to Zaino last December, I've only had to spot polish our black Tahoe once -and that's because the dealership monkeys marred up the paint on a few panels. Z5 hides minor marring better than anything that I've ever used -period. Switching from a synthetic to wool wash mitt and using a foam gun has drastically reduced marring pick up too. I used to polish out marring/light scratches WEEKLY.

I wash three to four times a week, and rinse and clean my rims daily if weather permits. I wax weekly...which is expensive and probably not needed but I just enjoy doing it so...who knows.

I polish about every 3 months.
