That is true as well, but not everybody knows what IP, or QEW is so it leads to the question should we stop using abbreviations too? Just being argumentive here. :dance

My point also. Acronyms are ok, but the tools to decipher them must be readily available, which they are not.

At work I have a sheet of paper sitting next to my computer with some of the acronyms defined so I can make sense of the "I put the opp yeah you know me... " posts. :D

Please do not refer to pads by color type. Not all manufacturers use the same colors for the same level of aggressiveness. Asking if the yellow pad by so and so is the right pad to use is going to get you a ??? from those who don't use those pads. Forget the color, that is just to look pretty. If you ask if the polishing pad by so and so is the correct pad for your situation is going to allow more people to answer your question more quickly.

:)

Werd. :xyxthumbs

Maybe this should be a sticky?

Peace.

Sadly I did the same when I started viewing these forums. It was quite frustrating at times but you eventually memorize all the acronyms... more or less. :grinno:

Best way of getting a good response is having the question in the title. We see too many titles like "curious now" "please help" etc - what we should be having is

"AIO by PC?" "which lsp over AIO" etc so at least we know if we can help without opening up the thread!!!

Regarding abbreviations I still dont know what the hell "werd" means - someone explain please?

Since Dave Pickett was willing to ask about "werd" (some of us Yanks find it utterly  too), I'll ask about "PPI".

We should ID pads by PPI.

OK, I'll guess that it's some kind of Production Part Index/part number/etc. but I don't really know. What's "PPI" stand for?

PPI = Pores per Inch

Ah, OK, seems obvious now that you've told me :D Thanks!

I wouldn't want to categorize pads purely by that...IMO there are too many other significant characteristics. I like the broad category approach - wool, cutting, light cutting, polishing, finishing. Those are the primary functional differentiations, right?

As for the acronyms, I can see how they might take a little getting used to, but I just lurked here until I had a pretty good handle on them before I ever posted...sorta like learning the language of a new country before you converse with the natives. Just as I key in "sorta"/"dunno"/etc. instead of typing out the proper word, the acronyms make it so much easier for me to key in a response; they *really* help me out when responding to Qs.

Propel pads FTW..

FTW? This is my day to ask what stuff means :o so what does FTW mean in this context? In my experience "FTW" is something a certain type of person gets as a tattoo; in *that* context it means "#*(& the world".

Heh heh, I've seen it lots of times, but only in the context I mentioned ;)

Someone needs to update the "Secret Decoder Ring" (SDR). While we're at it, how about adding OCW? I see those initials a lot, too, but it's not in the SDR. The SDR goes straight from OB ("Orbital Buffer") to OG ("One Grand Products").
