My neighboor has a 94 Lincoln Continental with the silver painted factory cast rims with the polished lip, standard on these vehicles. Apparently, he had a brake pad disintigrate on him a month ago, and it sprayed an asbestos type material all over the rim. It caked on it in spots. He was unable to wash / scrub it off, and called a local detail shop, who finally told him to put OVEN CLEANER on the rim to remove the stuff.
Well, he did, and left it to sit overnight. It did remove most of the material, but there is still a bit left on some spots, and it has left the oven cleaner residue on the paint of the rims.
Is there any way to remove the brake pad build up? Or the oven cleaner residue? Or should he just repaint the rims? I would hate for him to use silver from a can and have the rims look very cheesy on a Lincoln that is is great shape.
Any thought or suggestions on how to make his wheels look great again would be welcomed.......
