Help with M205

I tried M205 for the first time today. I used a brand new foam polishing pad on the rotary. I polished a 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 ft. area on the cars hood. I used mild pressure for the first couple passes and then i made a few passes without any pressure. I pulled the car out into the light and it had plenty of holograms. I pulled the car back in the shade and tried the M205 again with the orbital on the same section of the hood. I pulled the car back out into the sun and all of the holograms were gone. Why is it that the rotary left holograms? Should i have used a finishing pad instead? Any tips or help with techniques would be appreciated. Thanks.

M205 are known to leave pseudo holograms... Did you do IPA wipe down after the rotary ?

Is your paint hard or soft ? Polishing pad on soft paint is hologram combo depending on rotary's RPM...

I seem to always leave some holograms when I use a rotary (but then I've never tried Ultrafina either). Plenty of Rotary-Meisters have said that they often get holograms with M205 via rotary, it's just not all that foolproof a product in that regard (maybe because the abrasives don't break down). But yeah, using a finishing pad might help a bit.

Shrug..if you need to finsh out via orbital I'd just do that.

I have no rotary experience, so take this comment with a grain of salt, but I have read a couple of experienced buffers say that when using Megs' SMAT products (105, 205, UC) one should apply consistent pressure throughout the buffing cycle. Maybe something to try ...
