Help with cleaning pads

I usually clean my pads after use, but when I go to use them again the next day, I get dust spraying all over the place. What I have done is mist the pads prior to use, that seems to help. Just wondered what you guys do for this problem. Thanks Gary
 
For 6.5" pads that I use on the PC and rotary, I clean them with dawn or similar in the sink after each use.



For the 8" pads for the rotary, I have just been cleaning them with a brush and then storing them in a plastic zip lock bag. It seems to work pretty well.
 
I've just tried new method of cleaning pads.



1. Soak in a bucket of hot water with a good dose of Dawn for at least 24 hours.

2. Stuff them in the wahsing machine on a delicates cycle.



They came out squeaky clean and they haven't deformed or fallen apart...yet. I'm going to keep using this method to see if there are any signs of accelerated wear.

I use a product called Klean to clean my foam pads. It is from Akyra, the body shop line of HI-Temp. You can get if from Top of the Line. It takes every bit of residue out of the pads.
 
I use LC pads and throw them in with my MF towels. In all honesty, I have not noted any detioration in the foam construction and the pads seem to work like new (no build up inside).



Just air dry BTW.
 
I wash all my pads and foam applicators in the washing machine on delicate cycle with Simple Green.



Comes out completely clean and no trace of scent or product is left.
 
Doesn't the glue come apart (velro backing) when you put them in washing machine? I've got a few pads that are in perfect shape but the velco backing is coming off, I hesitate to use a glue on the back to secure, ideas? Gary

What pads are you using?
 
Try a light layer of Goop.



For rotary i wash X2 with APC and water and spin dry in a 5 gal pail.
 
I've washed my LC pads probably 10 times in a front load washer with zero signs of wear. I think I will try Simple green for a more thorough clean next time though.
 
I have had success with soaking foam pads in a vingegar and water solution for an hour or so. The vinegar helps to break down the wax or polish and I believe it is less aggressive than Simple Green.



I follow up by either hand washing with a little Dawn or Palmolve or toss them in the washing machine, either have worked fine for me.



I thought of this because of the similar reccomendation of adding some vinegar in the rinse cycle when washing MF towels. It does help to break down loose wax or polish residue.

Same here, and I use LC and Meg's pads (all 6"-6.5"). The only pads that ever experienced deterioration via this method were the Shur-Buff (sp?) white finishing pads I picked up from CMA a few years ago. Every other pad I have is 2-3 years old. I also use an extra vinegar rinse cycle with the pads and mfs.
