help with choosing a QD

i am about to order some QD but was wondering which one out of the two would be better, preferrably without silicone in the ingredient list:

1. meg's Final Inspection

2. meg's Final Detail.

I am pretty sure that Megs FI is silicone free. Its body shop safe. I have heard good things about FD and am looking forward to giving it a try.

For what reason don't you want silicone? Unless you are really hardcore about your sealants and think that the trace amounts of silicone in FD will inhibit bonding, I would definitely go with Final Detail. I've used FI before, but FD blows it away. And if you are paranoid about the silicone, just wash the car before you put another coat of sealant on, it will wash right off.

I've just ordered a gallon of FD :D

and a gallon of Citri-gel :D

and a gallon of APC+ :D

and........well that'd be telling ;)

I have used FD and for the price, it is one of the best detailers available. I also have Clearkote's Quick Shine and I also like it very much but FD is alot cheaper.

I've only used Quick Shine and like it a lot. Trying some other QD's is one of my 04 resolutions (sort of works against the "spend less on detailing products" one though...)

If you must go with Meguiar's I suggest the FI. The FD smears too much. I have found Poorboy's Spray and Wipe to be better yet. I used to use FI all the time though.

:up :up excellent stuff.

If I want to add a little wax, I'll use either the One Grand QD or the Pinnacle QD..both are fine products.

thanks for all the replies :D i have put in the order for FD. the reason why i wanted no silicone was from hearing friends of mine who say silicone tends to give good shine but smears and requires a lot of elbow grease to buff off. but hearing from most of you, FD seems to be a good choice.

quickshine and FI will be on my list of "to try" for this year. thanks again.

FD is good but is not bodyshop safe, which probably means it contains silicones.

I prefer Clearkote Quickshine although it is 65% more expensive in the UK.

Want to try something!

FD over Quickshine. Looks stunning.

A light QS spritz with the first drying pass. Then FD for second pass.

I find you get the depth with the FD and the reflection of the QS.

2001civicex i read about your experience with FD and also that of others. seems that some like it while others dont, if the worst happens and i am also amongst those who are not in favour of it, i shall be purchasing a different brand or of course the FI :D

thanks again for all the replies.

not sure as i have not yet tried FD so regarding the smudging only time will tell. sounds like a good purchase, the reason why i am not going for other brands that have been suggested is that it is a lot harder to order in good old blighty. i have considered KC quickshine but unfortunately it is not sold in gallon sizes plus its expensive.

As long as you don't use too much, you shouldn't have any smearing problems. Smearing happens when you usually spray too much, or there is abnormal weather- high humidity, very cold, etc.
