Help with Canadian Tire Products

Hey folks, I have a 1999 Buick Regal (original white paint) and I have noticed lately the "rail dust" on the car. I have an 8" Simoniz RO polisher I got as a gift. Canadian Tire has Mothers Clay Bar System and Meguiar's Quik Clay Detailing System and it looks as though claying the car looks pretty simple. Now I'm not expecting to get perfect results as I've never detailed my car before, but the paint does need some attention. My questions are which one of those two clay products would be better?, and what products that can be bought at Canadian Tire should I use after the clay that I could manage with my Simoniz and zero experience

Thanks,

Jay

Hi jay,:ca

The first thing you should do is to bring back that simoniz piece of junk(too weak to do anything but apply wax) and ask for a credit which you can use toward getting a real polishing machine. CT sells the porter cable polisher for about 200 bucks. Or better yet, order thru eshine.ca and it'll cost 150 bucks. Either mother's or meguair's clay will do the same job of prepping your paint prior to polishing. If you do decide to get a decent polishing machine, ct does cary meguair compound/polish that you can buy to correct your paint. Finally the best sealant product they have unfortunately is NXT which you can use to seal the paint.

Having used both, they are very similar except for the clay's color. I'd say buy the cheapest. Also consider the price of Quik Detailer(Meguiar's) and Showtime(Mother's) as you should use about a full bottle on your car.

If they are the same price, Mother's includes a sample of their cleaner wax which is more than enough to do your car a few times. It's not the best wax out there, but it's included and a good starter. Meguiar's Quik Clay is discontinued and includes only clay and a bottle of lubricant (Quik Detailer). However if you can buy their Smooth Surface kit (the new Meg clay kit), they include a sample of their cleaner wax as well, a microfiber towel and a nice plastic case to store your clay.

I used to buy the cheapest, but my local CT stopped carrying Mother's clay so now it's Smooth Surface only for me.

I've used both and like the Mothers clay better than the Meguiars.

While you are at Canadian Tire, get one of the Simonize sheepskin wash mitts. Pick through them and take the softest one.

I'd love to pick up a unit like the PC but it's just not in the budget even at $150
