Help! Wetsanded the car, anything I can do?

Hello everyone,

I wetsanded a part of my car that had some markings on it from a basketball pole, I used 1500 and everything went okay. Then, I kind of went crazy and started trying to wetsand little scrathces out of the car. Long story short, I now have that dullness on the paint that looks kinda chalky.

I tried to get some rubbing compound and paint cleaner to get the spots out but it didn't really work. I just applied the rubbing compound by a cotton pad and the same with the paint cleaner from Meguiars.

Afterward I tried to put some polish over it but now it still looks bad. How can I go about fixing this? Is there anything I can do? Should I just try and take it somewhere and see what they say? I'd like to try some products if they can work before I go out and get crazy with it.

I feel incredibly dumb and stupid about this. I will never try anything like that again. Thanks for any help.

I used to have a PC 7424 and some products but sold them a while back. Should I try something like Klasse AIO then Menzerna IP and FP?

I will try to post some pictures tomorrow. Thanks

 you sold your PC?!?

Looks like you're going to need it back.

IP should be able to do something about it. IP with a cutting pad over the hazing. FP with a polishing pad over the whole car. Then you can finish it off with the Klasse twins.

A PC and IP over the marks and FP over the entire car (as stated earlier) should be able to do the trick.

AIO won't do anything for the sanding marks.

Try using a finer sandpaper if you need to, like 2000 or even 3000 grit. This will make it easier for your compound to polish the dull paint. After that I have used 3m rubbing compound with a PC using a yellow sonus pad, followed by 3m finish restorer using a sonus white polishing pad. Good as new when I was done! (I know you don't have the PC so get ready for some serious elbow grease!) Good luck! :waxing: p.s. take a look at Recently added Photos to see the before and after of the steps I've listed above on a black civic. I used 2000 grit 3m sandpaper for the sanding. :bigups

When I went to the page you were refrencing it didnt say you did it, this is all I found for your screenname, unless you have registered two?

"IMO the sctraches won't be completely taken out by hand....BUT a good product like KLASSE All In One can do some good hiding after some moderate hand buffing with colorx."

First off....1500 is a heavy grit if not needed. Always try and go with 2k or 3k in the future.

AIO won't do anything at all for you, not even hide anything so drop that from your list. Best bet is to find a pro that is good with a rotary and have him or her correct your little boo-boo.

Also, there is nothing you did which is not repairable, I know it looks ugly but it can be brought back. You just made a large leap without having the proper tools and products.

Thank you all for your help. I was afraid nothing would work and I was just going to have to live with the embarasment of driving around with that on my car.

I will make some time to get another PC and try the Menzerna IP and FP. Hopefully this will work. Once again Thanks!

Anthony is right. After wetsanding, I'd use my rotary.

If you're going to use the PC let us know how that comes out.

Hi Joshua 312: Go to the autopia gallery and you'll see the pictures of the black civic that I posted lastnight. It's a shot just left of the gas tank. I also posted a pick of an explorer that I did.
