i recently purchased a brand new black subaru forester from irvine subaru on the 30th of may. the first time i washed it i noticed about 15 to 20 strangely shaped bumps in the paint that seemed like imperfections in the clear coat.

i brought the car back to subaru and informed them i was not happy about the paint and wanted it looked at. at that time they brought out one of their "detailers" from the back who said it is from bird droppings and that they could get rid of them but it may leave swirls in the paint.

i would like a second opinion and a quote from a professional on what it would cost to get this fixed as i plan on having subaru held accountable.

please let me know if you or a local in the orange county area is available to check this out.

If the issues in question are depressions/low areas in the paint, then yeah...etching from bird bombs/etc. sounds likely.

and that they could get rid of them but it may leave swirls in the paint...

First, complete correction of serious etching can be risky; it's easy to overthin the clearcoat. This mght be something you oughta just live with (or demand a new, undamaged vehicle).

If they are corrected, either by wetsanding then buffing or by buffing alone, you *ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT* be left with *ANY* swirlmarks. Such artifacts are indicative of incompetent work and nobody who would leave such flaws in their wake should touch your car under any circumstances.

[Insert rant about your dealership...man-oh-man are they trying to put one over on you!]

I'm hoping you can find a pro here who can evaluate/rectify the situation. I also hope you stick to your guns and don't let that dealer/Subaru off the hook.

Good luck, and Welcome To Autopia!
