I recently purchased a 2003 BMW used in titanium silver. It looks good with only a few little scratches here and there, but after discovering this site I realize it can look much better. I plan on doing a full detail on her in about two weeks and want to make sure that my process is not misguided...
I'm planning to do the following:
Prep:
Wash (meguiars soap, a tiny bit of dawn and some vinegar for water spots)
Possibly clay (I clayed about a month ago)
Wash (meguiars soap & cap full of AIO)
Polish:
3M Machine Polish w/ Meguiar's 6.5" foam cutting pads (W7006)
- I realize this isn't a very abrasive polish, but I only have one scratch that I think may be difficult.
Klasse AIO: Meguiar's 6.5" foam polishing pads (W8006)
NEED HELP HERE: I'm undecided as to the next step. I will have some SG on hand, but I understand it is very difficult to work with, and I'm leaning towards using an alternative sealant. Proper auto care seems to recommend the spray "Menzerna High Gloss Acrylic Sealant" and I suspect using that would be MUCH easier--Do you guys think this would be a good substitute? I initially planned to use Menzerna products the first time, but got a really awesome deal on a package with the Klasse (Porter cable, 3M machine polish, AIO, SG, 2 cutting/2 polishing pads for $80shipped).
Questions:
1. Is my process OK?
2. What speeds should I be using for the polishing/should my pad choice be fine?
3. Should I bother claying again before this process? (bare in mind I do not have a garage).
4. Is the spray on Menzerna sealant going to be a good substitution? (I can always SG it in the future when I'm not fatigued from a long days detailing/get a little more comfortable).
5. Do you guys feel this will yield good results on a silver car? I've gotten it to look pretty wet in the past and am hoping this process will maintain those results a bit longer.
Thanks in advance, guys!
