Help: Need to remove swirls by hand!

Hey everyone! I'm about to detail a dark blue rsx, i got it used, its about 3 years old, and the paint hasnt been taken care of at all. There are swirls all around, but I dont have the cash to invest on a pc. My current plan is:

- wash, clay, #80, aio, 4*upp

how does that line-up sound? I was considering using mother's powerpolish over #80, but theres not too much info on that. Need some advice here, what's the MOST effective polish to use to remove swirls by hand?? and I don't really want my arm falling off afterwards if possible as well!

Well, your arm just may fall off! In fact, if you have any deep swirls, you can count on it. I've seen very little, if any success at "removing" swirls by hand if they have any depth to them at all. You simply cannot generate the cutting power needed by hand. You will most likely need something with more cut power than #80 if you need to try and remove some defects. You may want to look into the SSR lineup that PB has. You can "hide" some defects using a polish with fillers like a carnuba product. Anything with fillers will eventually fade out and the swirls will be back, however. If you think you may get into detailing for good, I'd look around for a PC. They are sooooooooooo nice!

#80 will work fine by hand, but I recommend doing this over a week or so.
Split your car up into sections and work on one a day.
So one day, work on your hood, then the next work on the roof, boot, doors, etc.
This is the only way you're going to be able to really work in the #80 as needed and not have your arms fall off.
The good thing about #80 is it will partially fill in any swirls, but that won't be much use if you use AIO afterwards. I would go with NXT (the more coats the better) after #80 to finish off those swirls.
The products you listed would be better if you had a PC, you can still use them, but you'll have to be sure you polish out every swirl with #80, otherwise AIO and UPP will highlight any remaining swirls. Maybe go with SSR1 if you still prefer AIO/UPP.
 
I agree, I tried to remove swirls by hand over a couple of weeks. Had big problems and actually looked worst than when I started. Got some advise from the Detail guys. I used an inexpensive polisher and the results were much better. Your arms may fall off and the results won't be worth your time spent.
